Well, I already have my replacement bike for the SV and am glad I made that choice. Much smoother for the commute and more comfy too. I will be getting a weekend bike in March next year though and have a few bikes in mind:
ZZR1400 - I love the looks and it goes like stink as well! Ninja ZX636 B1H - looks again and that it's a good handling bike But I will probably end up with a 2006 GSXR750. I've never really wanted one but everyone who's owned one sayd that they are totally awesome bikes. The best of the supersports according to a lot of folks (even some CBR owners!). Of the V Twins I would perhaps like either a Tuono, RSV Mille or Honda SP1 or Firestorm! |
This is the 6 million dollar question!!!
Everyone's got a different opinion on it :) I used to have a ZX6-R J1 2000 model and I thought it was the bol#*cks: loads of power, I saw 155 on the clocks (optimistic speedo I expect) comfy for a sportsbike, I commuted on it, and when you got it above 10,000rpm.............. WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!! BUT..... every time I got in the rpm sweet spot, the noise it made was like "Any coppers out there? look at me I'm breaking the sound barrier, come and arrest me now" It's all psycological but it makes a big difference to the enjoyment factor. Maybe getting nicked at 125 had something to do with it, going to court is a scary thing. My dream bike? If Triumph made a less track-focused 675...... mmmmmmm |
Probably an IL4, but a 750 or a 1000 - wouldn't want to sacrifice the grunt lower in the rev range that the SV has.

Someone may have said this to you already but you must test ride some of these machines before you try. Try and get some demos from dealers then buy 2nd hand...
Ride your SV there....and back. This should give you a fair comparison. Always worked for me when I rode my mates bikes too. I've had 2-strokes, single and 4's. But I think I'm gonna stick with v-twins for a while. I love squirting out of corners and nothing else has made that so much fun... :P |
I'm thinking triple 675, I really like my sv but find it a little lacking at the odd trackday, budget suspension and lack of power are fine for me at the moment, but reckon after another year I might move on, as I don't want to spend shed loads getting it up to scratch, although dog bones, exhaust and fork oil are on the cards for the winter.

Not sure what my next ride will be, but this year I put around 2500 miles on my 02 Triumph Bonneville , for touring use I really prefer the relaxed ergos vs the SV's forward stance.
Last year I tried a buddys 03 GSXR750 - a great bike. Smooth engine with very linear power delivery. Power wise it felt similar to my little SV until around 8000 - where the SV starts to flatten out , and the GSXR starts to take off. I actually found the riding position more comfortable on the gixxer, as the handle bar reach is shorter than on my SV. This year I got to put some miles on a 06 Fazer 1000, the unfaired one. Pretty upright seating position. putting you "on top of" the bike in some way. Much less windblast than I had expected even with no fairing. Seems like a Great hooligan bike. Engine-wise the midrange felt much more gutless than I had expected (I've heard a lot about those brutal liter-bikes, not able to keep the front wheel on the ground) and I had to wind it out more to really get it moving. Putting around at 60mph in top gear it actually felt somewhat "buzzy" coming directly from my Bonneville. Would love to get some miles on a triple too, let's see what next year brings 8) |
im thinking another twin
maybe a BMW R1100S Boxer cup type thing. |
After seeing Gmonsta's lovely Tuono I would be more than happy with one of them but I have always wanted a Speed Triple for as long as I have been into bikes just money and lack of no claims bonus has stopped me getting one.
|
Definitely another twin, I like the way when you've got it banked right over and get on the gas it feels like little teeth come out of the sides of the tyres and get hold of the tarmac... does that make some sort of sense? You just don't get it with a four. Or the sound.

I love my SV But!! if Suzuki do bring out the IL6 as featured in more crap than news then thats what I'm saving for, Otherwise I'm leaning towards a pre vtec VFR800i
