Congratulations, I did my IAM many years ago, my insurance gave me a 10% discount..which was a nice touch. But as the insurance went up the next year it didn't make that much difference tbh. Still ... it's a good feeling knowing you've achieved something worth while, well done.

Thanks all - I don't know if it'll help with my insurance, it's all too opaque to tell. I'm very relieved as I do get quite nervous in situations like that.

I just need to make sure I don't go down the path of buying a GS now ...

Typically Cornmarket (IAM) are good, although this year they've been a bit rubbish with my renewal. They are no longer guaranteeing the lowest price. The more mature members of our group get better elsewhere.

I generally get the renewal, go on GoCompareTheMeerkat and get a decent price, email them back with a screen grab and ask them to call me with an offer. Pretty painless.

Congrats by the way, start of your journey.

^They phone me every year (technically Carole Nash) and have yet to come anywhere near close to prices I would get online.

Think I paid £130 this year comprehensive, all mods declared etc and Cornmarket were in excess of £30 more

A good day. :) The Lincolnshire Wolds are only 450-550 ft high but they acted as a fog barrier today. On the coast side we have had a warm, sunny day but when I tried to ride over the Wolds this morning it was foggy so I returned to the coast and the warmth. Cut the grass then sat outside to read - not bad for October.

Best thing I ever did to massively improve the enjoyment I get from riding. Well done.

Saturday off work... already been out cycling quiet lanes for an hour or so. The sun is out... time to get something out with an engine.

Nice, long, round the houses ride today in the sunshine to get some more coffee beans as I'm running low. Cracking day for it and cannot believe I'm still using my summer gloves over a week into October.

I'm busy next weekend and chances are the weather will have nosedived by the weekend after so that may have been the last ride of the season for me. The unlacquered casings on Hugh do not like salt so if the gritters have started coming out Hugh hibernates...

I used Belgum Alu on my SV's bare fork legs. It's a metal polish with a wax residue so cleans and leaves a protective coat. I used to reapply on every other wash.
