Re: SV1000 engine

I believe JHS managed to shoehorn a TL1000 lump into a 650 (although I believe some cutting of the frame was necessary), so technically it probably would be possible with a SV1000 engine (if you weren't concerned by such trivialities as cost, safety, longevity, useability, etc. ;)).

Cost aside, you'd be mental to put one into a 650 without really sorting out the brakes and suspension first and once you factor in the approx £900 to really do that properly, you would be much better off financially just buying a 1000 in the first place. Not to mention the hassle involved in getting an sv650 with a 1000 engine and "modified frame" insured.

Yeah definately modified frame, the TL has the cylinders the other way round to the 650, so you've got the small problem of the rear shock and downpipe trying to be in the same place!

Hardtail and remove the pipes completely, problem solved. :smt077

That's one way to improve the TL's rear damper.

If you want a bike with a 1000cc engine and that is quite like a SV650 to ride then get a Falco! :smt023

Re: SV1000 engine

Doing an engine swop with a modern bike is almost a complete waste of time if you are doing it only for performance reasons, the original bikes now are so good you would be better off getting the bigger engine bike and tweaking that, and it certainly doesn't make financial sense.
I've got a XZ7R that I was particularly attached to, had done the suspension, had a few spares including three sets of wheels, and it was a cracking road bike, only all my mates had R1's etc and I was forever getting left behind on the really fast bits...
I bought an old ZX9R B1 and did an engine swop, via the tuners who turned it into a 940cc, and ended up with 160bhp+ at the rear wheel. None of my mates knew anything about the project until we went to Spa and I out dragged the lot of them up the hill.....and the look on their faces back in the pits was worth every penny, which incidentally were quite a few. On a financial basis I could have sold the ZX7R and bought two R1's with the money I spent, and they would have been lighter and made the same power (nearly), but that isn't the point about a special. It's the individual character you create, it's YOUR baby, it's the wolf in sheep's clothing. My ZX7/9R is old, tatty and bloody brilliant, I wouldn't swop it for anything.....probably!
