Re: Valve clearances.
If the clearances are at all tight you would be well advised to reset them, close clearances do give the possibility of valve damage.
On occasion I've been surprised with bikes I've attended to that have obviously been running quite tight clearances for a while with no apparent damage. Even though the risk with clearances that are just slightly low is minimal, now that you know they are don't ignore it. |
Re: Valve clearances.
Are all the original shims likely to be the same size?
If I remove one and measure it I can then work out the shim required for the other cylinder before removing the other cam...hopefully |
Re: Valve clearances.
Nope they can be different. Never assume like that.

Re: Valve clearances.
I'm checking my clearances at the moment; is it generally regarded that the clearances (especially for the rear exhaust cam) will get smaller as valve recession happens more quickly than follower/shim/valve seat wear?
All of my clearances are within tolerance except for the rear exhaust clearances, which are both 0.18mm. I'm basically trying to work out whether the clearance will get smaller or larger. |
Re: Valve clearances.
They tend to get smaller as the valve seats wear and the valves sink up into the head deeper.

Re: Valve clearances.
Mine were pretty much the same, two exhausts at the front out.

Re: Valve clearances.
Ive been looking round for a micrometre today without look so have sourced online. When it arrives the cams will be coming out :smt120
Anyone know if Webmoto ones are genuine suzuki's? I read some where copies are not as hard. |
Re: Valve clearances.
No idea. I used a wemoto one and it was same last time I measured it as when it went in 10k before.

Good afternoon all. I doubt it. Some copies are definitely inferior. I personally prefer genuine shims, the price difference is minimal in real terms. As, you wont be buying them often. Cheers. |
Re: Valve clearances.
what do you guys use tool wise for refitting the cam chain tensioners, is it worth buying the suzuki tool?
