"Bung us 50 quid and I'll look the other way?"

Have to say, I'm with the moral approach here as well. Contact the company and explain the mistake. It's the decent thing to do and you know it.

I'm starting to think less of myself now, your all either far too honest or your even lying about lying which is genieus!

OP - If they call you or invoice you for the bike then obviously hold your hands up and return it. They wont hold it against you for not informing them. Obviously if they dont contact you then in a few weeks time its yours, brilliant get it flogged.

I'd phone the company and explain what has happened and give them chance to send DHL or whoever to collect the bike at their own cost, and ask for your lock to be sent instead.

Did you correct the shop assistant or did you keep your mouth shut and walk away?

I haven't used the words 'stealing' or 'dishonest'. But it is sharp practice. And I don't preach it, this is an open thread, I'm not afraid to say what I think. If others find it an uncomfortable message, then too bad. Others have said treat others as you would yourself - well I can't improve on that. I'm self employed and I get it all the time, people wanting something for nothing, and no doubt feeling very pleased with themselves if they do.

And while I don't recall anyone ever giving me the wrong change, yes of course I'd correct an error.

Incidentally, perhaps some on here don't know that I'm a solicitor. How would you expect a solicitor to behave?

With honesty but I would think you would be an honest guy if you were not a solicitor Ed.

I like being an honest person, gives me a 'sad' sense of wellbeing. Others are not honest and live with their dishonesty. I say sad as some will thing it is so - ask me if i give a flying .......

Just shows the type of person and their morals I suppose, everyone is different.

I try to treat people as I would like them to treat me, I would inform them and ask the to collect it when they deliver your lock.
