If you aren't married then consider a cohabitation agreement. This is effectively a deed of trust, saying who is entitled to what.

If you're getting married a pre-nup might be worthwhile, especially if one party has significant assets which s/he wants to ring-fence for good reason. But don't expect the judge to give it any weight. Under the Matrimonial Causes Act the judge can do what s/he considers appropriate. This will include the value of a business if s/he is self-employed, so the business might have to be sold if approriate.

Remember that under the Children Act that if there are kids the the welfare of the kids is the paramount consideration.

Oh I do love filling in Form E for clients - this is the statement of means on divorce:rolleyes:

To be perfectly honest, at this juncture i feel there is no point in continuing this partiular discussion. If you wish to be pedantic/belligerent then good luck with that.

Well excuse me for being offended

You see when I was a child bride, getting married meant forever. It was never a requirement that an exit strategy be created. Oh how times to change in this materialistic world we live in.

But in the spirit of fairness I must state that I feel that any overall gain made during the relaionship should be shared equally.

Am I just an old fashioned fool?
