Which means lots of sideways on the way to work in my BMW :D

Got the fairing off the bike last night and started cleaning up around the front and bottom of the engine - yuck! Not going to spend too much time on it as it has 30,000kms of muck and grime there and I am not afraid to use it in bad weather so it will just get a general clean up rather than try and make it perfect.

Mine was just plugged into the loom and buried under the seat..
There are a few threads on it on here and I know theres one on another forum I use..

I'll find it and paste it here for you.

don't think i'll have to much of a problem with it but might as well get as much info as i can. From what i've seen its just whip it out and reconnect the cables, pretty much all in a days work for me. Well hopefully anyway. Just trying to de-spike it just now if that doesn't work its out.

15 mins is some going:)

How long do you think sorting out the fault will take as it looks like we may have a few weekends of good weather on the way...

don't know going to have a look at it tomorrow got a bad earth somewhere i think. if i try and turn anything on the entire electrics die. going to check and clean up all the connections and see what happens, i'd rather have an electrical problem that anything else at least i have an idea of what i'm doing with electrics

Today I...

Ordered a new clutch lever (cut the end off mine without realising its an MOT fail). Went out to the shed to find its the brake lever that I cut the end off, and that I have a spare... Doh.

My bike does in fact have silver wheels.

Polishing the water pump is no quick job.

My new exhaust sounds fruity, loud with the baffle in but is also road legal :)

Saved 2 quid by finding a bolt to go in the crank case cover.

Cleaned the bike, and decided it wouldn't take a lot of work to make it look pretty good.

Today I...

Woke up with a head ache so didn't do much apart from wash the bike because it really needed it. Tomorrow I'm going to blow out the cobwebs that have once again built up inside the engine. :D

Hope it was a hangover, otherwise it could be the start of this bug that's going round :(

I've been coughing and spluttering all week :( Well cheesed off :smt085

Re: 'Ere 'ere is the EAR Megathread

Tomorrow I'm going to maplins to get some wire so I can re-install my speedo unit, tidy the whole lot up and do a better job of it. And figure out where I could mount the speedo, then next week made a nice mounting bracket at work if I can :)

I don't suppose anybody knows what gauge wire will do the trick? For the idiot lights I'm sure 1.4amp wire will do the job, but how about the power to the unit and the rev counter? The leads supplied are almost novelty wires, they're so small.

Meh I don't get ill and haven't been for over 2 years now. :D I feel fine now. I think it was due to too much sleep and the house being too warm. Hope you feel alot better soon.

That's the trouble with having kids, I get what they get, although normally I am pretty resistant.

So it's some super bug that's got past my defence system :(

I need some warmth & sunshine, too much time couped up in doors :(

Today I

Got up early (but it's the weekend:scratch:) and took the Duke over to Market Harborough for a service. Then spent the rest of the morning using public transport to get home again.

Roads had dried out nicely by the time I got back. Typical. :smt090

Well I sorted my electrics out today turned out it was the starter relay and conector were full of muck so all i need to do now is drain the tank and carbs and put some fresh fuel in and hopefully it'll be all good.

Re: 'Ere 'ere is the EAR Megathread

I made a drawing for the bracket so I can remount my gauges. Took the top off the ignition barrel, and reckon I can mount a bracket there, so I'll cut that out on the laser cutter this week and bend it and job should be a goodun. I'm tidying the wiring up at the same time, though that is a bit of a challenge.

Well someones gotta keep you boys on your toes....well, bikes actually!!

Im just excited cos i had a great ride today, really confident and surprisingly 'brisk' :p:p I cleaned the bike yesterday after getting it grubby and wanted to get back home today before the heavens opened and i had to wash it again, so i really 'went for it' - awesome!!!

Besides which, it'll just be good to have as many folks rideout as possible :smt023

Re: 'Ere 'ere is the EAR Megathread

My day was almost over before it began. I was a bit bored of where the camera on the bike was positioned. So I gaffa taped it to the pillion footpeg so it faced backwards. Put the key in the ignition, struggled to turn it because the barrels gone a bit stiff. Finally turned the key and there was a series of beeps from the alarm plus a very week fuel prime. I started to think the battery had gone flat but if it had I couldn't understand it because it was out last week.

Thumbed the starter, it turned over once then everything went off. No alarm, lights, dash, nothing. Not even the 2 parking lights would work. I thought it had blown the main fuse or there was a short somewhere.

Pulled out the Haynes manual and the first thing it said was to turn the bike off and take the negative terminal off the battery before poking around. Went to undo it and the bolt was tight, but wiggling around somehow. I asked my dad what had happened and he undid it, done it back up again and it seemed to grab better. It seems that the last time I put the battery in I managed to put the screw back in wrong.

Turned the key and started it and a sense of relief fell over me. The moral of the story is, the last 2 years I used it every day because it was my only form of transport. I leave it alone for a few weeks and it all starts falling to pieces. :D
