Best Ride out routes for the Pennine Massive

Edited so it makes a bit of sense.

This thread is for routes that you ride that you'll think others will enjoy.
It doesn't have to go to any of the typical haunts, the idea is that this will be a place where folk can come and look and get suggestions for a route they haven't tried before.

Idea's to make it easy to navigate:

Where it covers
Google/Satnav link
Estimate on milage/time
Any highlights/photo's you have.

So here goes:

Slaidburn : Bridge loop
A and B roads
Watch for sheep, pheasants, the odd copper on the A65 and did I mention the sheep and pheasants Jubilee tower is good for a picture or 2.

Great idea, similar to bestbikingroads.com . Be helpful if people could include sat nav info.

Been out today, Cramlington - Military Road - A686 - A66 - Ullswater - Patterdale - Kirkstone Pass - The Struggle - Ambleside - Hardknott Pass - Duddon Valley - Millom - A595 - Kendal - Shap - Hartside - Military Road - home. Will try a write up sometime this week. Hartside was empty at half nine as seen by these photos.http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0005.jpghttp://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0004.jpg

bright and early mate!!

This is mine (sort of well known)

Heddon on the wall- Chollerford- A696- A68- Carter Bar- Jedburgh- Coldstream- Wooler- A1

Around 170 miles full of gastso's north of the border but very good run.
Rest stops at Chollerford, Otterburn and Jedburgh. Fuel (if needed) at Wooler.

Good run takes around 4 hours if having a rest stop.

Good little run especially this time of year, only 100 miles start to finish and should take you about 4 hours including a good stop for lunch.

A - Long Preston > B6478
B - Slaidburn > B6478
C - Caton via Trough of Bowland > A683 > A687
D - Ingleton > B6255
E - Hawes > A684 > B6259
F - Kirkby Stephen > A685 > A683
G - Sedbergh > A683
H - Devils Bridge, Kirkby Lonsdale

Petrol in Caton on the main road, services just past the turning for Ingleton on the A65, small independant (pricey) place in Hawes, in Kirkby Stephen if you turn right on the A685 and head north for a mile or so and 1 in Sedbergh cant miss it

Plenty of food stops for the fatties in Slaidburn, butty van down the trough, main place for bikers would be Hawes or wait until the end and the butty bar at the bridge

Rivington Barn to Devils Bridge - Route #1

http://i56.tinypic.com/vhysec.png

A - Rivington Barn
B - Belmont > A675
C - Hoghton > Samlesbury Bottoms > A677 > A59
D - Clayton-le-dale > B6245
E - Ribchester
F - Dunsop Bridge
G - Caton
H - Devils Bridge

If you want to take in the 2 meeting places heres 1 way of doing it. Just over 60 miles should take you about 2 hours(ish) without stopping as it is a bit stop/start around Ribchester way. Nice & twisty upto Dunsop bridge after that though

Rivington Barn to Devils Bridge - Route #2

http://i52.tinypic.com/2h5psgh.png

A - Rivington Barn
B - Belmont > Egerton Rd > Stones Bank Rd > B6391
C - Chapeltown > A6177
D - Haslingden > A680
E - Rising Bridge
F - Simonstone > Sabden
G - Clitheroe > B6478
H - Slaidburn
I - Burton in Lonsdale > A687 > A683
J - Devils Bridge

This is a bit more round the houses but between C and D is a great road can really get some speed up. And between Slaidburn and Burton in Lonsdale is a single track road that feels like youre in the middle of nowhere :)

Again just over 60 miles and should take you about 2.5 hours unless youre really shifting

I cannot be doing with Peeing about with maps.

But to amend routes above to what I prefer

Don't go into Ribchester, instead turn up gallows lane and then through Hurst Green to Waddington, Newton, Slaidburn. Then though to Stephen Moor, over past Pete's grandpa's Bench to Keasdon, Clapham and then the nasty A65 to the Bridge or over to the ribblehead/hawes etc.

Back from the Bridge through Arkholme to Caton. Then over Quernmoore towards Bay Horse and then over the bit of fell to Oakenclough and take your choice to either drop down Claughton-on-Brock, Inglewhite, Longridge or via Chipping toward Longridge, then over Jeffrey to Ribchester and back with a quick A59 blast.

Looky here

This ride is in the pipeline for my mates next door neighbour if he doesnt stop with the cockiness - passed his test 3 months ago and already thinks hes rossi :laughat: and we wont go easy on him :smt077

Takes in Buttertubs,Kirkstone,Honister,Hardknott and Wrynose Passes the more challenging roads on offer round here but is a great ride as long as you dont ride like a tool (especially down Hardknott :smt103)
