Indoor Electric Motocross

Who's up for a bit of electric indoor Motocross action then?

I've been going along to play on some of the KTM Freeride's at Hyper-Trax in East Kilbride and I've got to admit its been a hoot. I was thinking that maybe we could get a visit in the new year. I've already talked SIII and TheRamJam into having a go and they appear to have enjoyed it.

Its an absolute hoot and at £20 for two ten minute sessions it hardly breaks the bank..

So who's game for a bit of giggle?

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

So we have three already, and I know Ron is interested as he's just told me that it was 'More fun than getting coke'd* up with a couple of Hookers, and cheaper too! :)'

I'm quite sure Colin will be up for it too. At the moment the track only fits 6 bikes at a time, but we could hopefully get enough people to get a couple of groups.

*please note other soft drinks are available.

Potentially up for this. Got a lot (possibly all) Saturdays in January booked up already but it looks like a splendid wheeze, in spite of my zero moto-x experience. Put me down for an enthusiastic maybe!

Oh yeah. I've got fully 10 minutes experience.

On a 250 2-stroke. On some waste ground. 25 years ago.

I'm practically Dave Thorpe!

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

Tis absolutely brilliant fun. I spent all day sunday, 8 - 3, driving up, about 3 hours there and driving home and have to say it was well worth the effort ! And that was with only 2 x 10 minute sessions on track.

Bikes are great, the torque and pull from zero revs is fantastic. Only problem is doing nothing with your feet when your used to braking and changing gear. But after 5 minutes that is forgoten and just using your left hand to lock the back wheel into the corners is soon learned.

I even managed to get some air under both wheels !!! Pretty impressed for an old fart like me.:D

I recon, I would be slower round the track on a petrol bike

carelesschucca 29-11-16 04:21 PM

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

The guys that own the place had fast riders trying the track out on their normal bikes and they were slower than on the Freerides.

The weirdest thing about it all is the silence. It's completely alien hitting a starter button and the only thing happening is a few lights flashing... I'd also like to give the warning that it doesn't hurt any less falling off an electric bike... Chimpboy can testify to that :-D

So how about we start putting down days we can get there (things seem to flow better first thing in the morning)

This. Have done a quick Google search and only found one other similar site but as it's in Cheshire that's not exactly convenient for me either.

Maybe. Dates dependant.

Sorry, I'm disappointing people around the country.

IIRC hyper-trax.com is the first indoor electric mx track officially endorsed by KTM in Europe.

Oh, today I've decided I'm going to try and mimic Stefan Events in the vain attempt to find some talent for this off road malarkey.

Days? On Monday I start a run of shifts - 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off, start again. You can work it out from there. :-)

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

OK folks, looking at Tigers schedule how about going on a Sunday morning either 29th January or the 5th February?

Going early for 10am means the bikes are fully charged and the place is fairly quiet. As I said at the moment it's £20 for 2 x 10minute sessions.

Which day is better for you guys?

Tiger 55 01-12-16 12:34 PM

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

Both of those days work the same, i.e. perfectly, for me.

Very kind of you to consider my roster by the way, don't suppose you could have a word with the organisers of the GM? :-)

carelesschucca 01-12-16 04:06 PM

GM organisational matters are out of my jurisdiction it seems to have gone quiet again...

29th best'est for me.

For those that don't have the gear, you can hire it, think it's £5 for helmet, boots, gloves......

carelesschucca 04-01-17 12:30 PM

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

OK folks I've plumped for 29th of January. We will need to know numbers as it's a maximum of six on track at any one time. If we get more than six we can split into two groups.

Before I book us in can we have a list of people that will be coming along and how long you want to ride for, remembering it's £20 for two ten minute sessions (I was a broken man after the first time I went and only did 20 minutes) I'm also going to ask my cousin to come along.

carelesschucca - 2 sessions (40 mins)

SIII 04-01-17 03:26 PM

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

Sign me up buddy boy, the wee one is also going to come along and have a go on the wee bikes. Jusat going to sign up for 20 minutes, with the option of further 10min / £10 session if any time available.

carelesschucca - 2 sessions (40 mins)
SIII - 1 session (2x10mins)

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

Go for it.

carelesschucca - 2 sessions (40 mins)
SIII - 1 session (2x10mins)
Tiger 55 - 1 session (2x10mins)
Munky Gunn +1 - 1 session (2 x 10mins) (in both cases)

P.S. If Tiger's there, who'll fly me to A&E?

carelesschucca 06-01-17 10:36 AM

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

It'll be fine. I can do the crashing for everyone.

Do we need to shout Marc? Is sober Marc going to be interested?

munkygunn182 06-01-17 04:13 PM

Re: Indoor Electric Motocross

I think we should shout Marc irrespective of sobriety. Just one will be more funny that the other...

OK folks I'm going to have to book this soon, probably mid-week so if you're interested get your name on the list.

Sorry, made an **** of that. Also realise I am number 7 out of an available 6 places. Obviously as last man in I will drop out if the numbers make it inconvenient.

We now have ten riders going as my cousin is bringing a few guys with him. As it's a maximum of 6 on track at any one time I'll put myself up for getting lapped repeatedly, leaving you guys to go in a group.

Soooo... do we all just rock up at 10am in whatever we are wearing, or do we need to be there 5 hours earlier for some sort of elaborate briefing, rule reading, Health an safety, kit fitting etc... ?

Assuming the former, see you in the morning!
