T-Shirt Design Competition

So, I've floated the idea of getting some clothing made and that seems to be something you want...

As you may have noticed though, I'm not a arty bod by any stretch of the imagination. As a result, I'm going to refer to the oldest play book in the world, and cheat.

Designs on a suitably shaped image, and the only real guide is that it has to represent Yorkshire, and especially the dales. It would help if it looked good on both a t-shirt or a hoodie, but I've ordered sun for the weekend so it should be targeting t-shirts as a first choice.

I lied, had nothing better to do today so been playing around and came up with this:

Reeder 23-05-11 10:21 PM

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

Right, after a little bit of research I came up with this

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1306188821

'The White Rose of York remains as the prime symbol of Yorkshire identity.'
From this I concluded it to be the most fitting symbol of Yorkshire as well as looking reasonably classy. I guess it's not totally clear what it is from my picture and I perhaps should have extended the stem a little longer past the leaf. I understand some may say that it's not bike related enough, and that's a fair point. However it's something reasonably clean, simple and easy on the eye. It's a basic white design which is easy enough to absorb in a quick look and not overly detailed. Not sure if it being one colour would make it cheaper to produce or not? Fonts can be changed, the design jigged about etc etc and please feel free to use it as a template if you want or just change parts of it, I really don't mind as its there to help. It's just perhaps an idea or some inspiration for someone else to come up with something better. I do personally feel though that whatever crazy fonts people come up with for the place name and AR11, that the username part should stay very easily readable and clear. It'll just keep things simpler when identifying people at a quick glance (people will be able to attack me quickly that way and without me noticing they're coming for me).

Also I'd just like to apologise for detracting people's attention away from fenjer's submission on the previous page and would like people to go back and have a look at it and offer her some feedback as to what they think, as it's only fair that my posts don't take away any attention from other people's entries.

I know that I'm not photoshop or design expert but it's the best I could do :D I have a .PSD? version and .JPEG version saved on my comp if anyone wants it sending to them making it easier to edit.

Please feel free to offer positive/negative feedback.

Thanks Reeder - your rose inspired me.

Looking at a rear brake-disk of an SV, there are 5 fixing bolts, just like the Yorkshire Rose has 5 petals.

That got me thinking, then with some sights as a hub, and a deer as a target I give you these.

Text, Font, Position etc needs adding but...

For on a black t-shirt.

For a white one

OHHHHH I LIKEY THAT SK!!!!!! The one to go on a black shirt is brill :)

Reeder, design usually goes on front, with a small 'username' on the top left of shirt, user name goes on the back.

Although, I kinda like the idea of previous ARs going down the back of the tshirt rear, with the username on the top.Like this.......

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

I like that idea Dizzy. We had a list of the villages/towns passed through on the route on the back of the AR09 one, also a bit like a tour list. I also agree that all AR's should be there, not just the ones you've been on.

I like your design Reeder, but I like even more the rose incorporated in the wheel/bambi combo.

Some good ideas happening here :)

Yeah, I thought the same. I like neat. Its purely for example, I'd be happier for someone to play with it and do something better.
But as said before I'm crap at computer design.....far better with a pencil and other media..in fact, I'm crap with computers full stop lol

It seems he is somewhat of a orgmuse as I too was inspired by Reeder but got swept up in plumbing/fitting a bath and have not had a chance to play with the rose theme.

SK yours is tops so I'm going to sit back & await the final version.

SK I like your idea, I spotted the rose form before reading your description, really good.

I think you missed the point - Everyone gets the entire tour list - not just the ones they have been on.

Like on Rock Bands Tour T-Shirts :)

Right then - if there are any more designs lurking about in peoples heads, get them sketched out and posted up.

Given that we will need a lead time to make any refinements and get them printed, I'm going to say that entries are closed on Sunday night. We'll then run a poll from Monday for a fortnight to decide which one is the final design, which should leave plenty of time for ordering and printing.

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

Perhaps once the design is chosen someone who's a dab hand at design/photoshop/computers could cast their hand over the final design to try and make it neater or more refined too if someone is willing to volunteer?

Edit: Too many goths on here :-) how about some nice flowers?

dizzyblonde 25-05-11 08:37 AM

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

I think SK, that the text should wrap around the outside of the disk. Its a little hard to read it on the disk itself, with all the holes. I think it would fill out the design with regards to print on fabric.

I likey very muchly though 8)

dizzyblonde 25-05-11 09:06 AM

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

I've deleted old posts and tidied up this thread, as it was getting a bit difficult to find all the designs amongst the chat. I've kept yesterdays comments, as I think they were relevant.

Hope nobody minds :)

rictus01 25-05-11 09:12 AM

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

Nice effects Dave, I quiet like the design but wonder if it's the right applcation? I'm not sure I'd want a gun sight on what looks like a target on my chest, all it needs is a "from" and "to" date and it would make an ideal deer hunting season sign :smt102

along the lines of what Steve said it's not very "friendly"

just my 2p

Cheers Mark.

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

I am not artistic so no designs will come from me.

However, personal preference is perhaps a discreet name on the chest and no names on the back. After all what is the point of identifying somebody walking away from you.

There is nothing unfriendly about the imagery of a scope on bambi's mother. We are almost in the country, shooting is a country sport.

I do like Pegs effort though. Although I guess the silhouette should be the right bike. Natural evolution should say if has to be Gixxer, but which one?

Reeder 25-05-11 10:00 AM

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

I personally do see the point in having names on your back. What if you're walking towards someone who's facing the other way and you want to introduce yourself or say hi?

Peg's idea is good but doesn't seem to hold much relevance to the location (just my 2p :D)

I'm also with dizzy saying that the text should be on the outside of the disk. A colour that's easier to see on black would be nicer too, like white text? If it was on white tshirts then the text could be black?

dizzyblonde 25-05-11 10:01 AM

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

I think Peg may have the copyright peeps after him, if we were to use that. he nicked it off the net..
Hes a ****, as hes not being serious about it....if i could have a mod stick to ban him from the tshirt thread......
I like the concept, but I really like the SK one, as its his own.

And names on back, has always worked. I'll pop off to find an example of my GM2 tshirt to illustrate.

Reeder 25-05-11 10:11 AM

Re: T-Shirt Design Competition

Just a thought that if people aren't happy with the whole deer/stag idea that perhaps it could be removed and the centre of the disk just turned into the rose?

Sorry to hijack your picture SK but just used it as a rough example of what I meant.
Could take out the cross hairs in the middle and arrange it into the proper part of the disk and then using colours like below show that it's the yorkshire rose?

This was just a basic example of my thoughts on paint whilst at work :D
