Tyre pressures SV650S?
I have dunlop sportmax D208F tyres on my sv650s. My bikea book says i should be running 36psi in the back and 33psi in the front. The dealership have given it to me with 33 in the back and 30 in the front. Is the psi specific to the tyres or should i inflate to the suzuki's reccomendations.
NB. This is cold pressure, it is a very hot day though. Thoughts and advice please .... :) |
Re: Tyre pressure???
Depends how accurate you think your pressure gauge is compared to the dealership.
I'd inflate them so your gauge reads correctly as it is quite a small difference. PS - I thought it was 32psi for the front of an SV |
Re: Tyre pressure???
I will check the book again before inflation. Also are you still selling your crash bungs?

Re: Tyre pressure???
Standard Pressures are IIRC
33 psi in the Front 36 psi in the Rear Personally I'd start there and then adjust by 1 or 2 psi to suit your riding style / tyres. But IMHO I dont think its wise to go widely away from these pressures unless the tyre manufacturer says its OK to do so. |
Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
Dunlop state 36 F and 42 rear
edit.....you are going to need to check with Dunlop or your tyre fitter, they list the D207 as 36/42 and then the D209 as 33/36. 33/36 is more usual for an SV but could be either. edit again...right, I get it now, the fitment chart isnt the clearest to read. For loads under 90Kg they suggest 33 Front/36 Rear, for loads over 90Kg they suggest 36 front/36 rear. |

Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
I run my dunlops (roadsmarts) at suzuki recommended psi's feel better.
At 36/42 the handling was very vague and slow, didn't like them at all (ran the centres in 50 mile tho :-D) |
Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
so 33/36 amirite?
|
Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
ave had no probs means there is a larger contact patch with road
|
Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
Well i went with what suzuki say n put 36 in the back n 33 in the front n it feels a bit quicker n easier to lean the bike from one side to the other. Also rained on the way home in a big downpoor which is best described as biblical and the bike felt fairly stable so..... Thank you all for your help, another problem solved by the wise sv.org elders :D

Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
I would go with the manufacturers recommended pressure as tyres do vary in their construction.
i.e. Triumph recommend 36 front 42 rear but the new Michelin recommendation for their tyre is 34-40. I would presume that the Suzuki recommended pressure is for the OE tyre that they fit and not the alternative you have chosen to fit |

Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
Reviving this thread, as my bridgestone is starting to feel low/look low too... and was looking on here for rough pressure people are running.
Manufacturers rating is for the tire size, so that will be your general PSI, however riders all have a preference whether it be more or less according to rider weight, road conditions, and bike handling etc. When you take your bike in for your service, the guys generally set your rear pressure to 34-36PSI. No idea what mine is currently, will check tonight on way home and inflate and will feedback later. Never really filled up my tyres before, they usually get a puncture or wear out before then  |

Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
I think it very much depends on how you ride and how you like it to feel. Clearly the manufactures will give some "safe" guidelines but these will be compromises for a lot of us as not all of us are "standard" riders. I for instance weight in about 95kg in my gear and I use 30 front and 32 rear. It won't start to get dangerous for you until you start to go below 25ish or over 40 so my advice is to play around with them a bit and see if firstly you can tell the difference, and secondly which way you prefer it.

Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
For information I run my Avon Storm Ultra 2 at 33/36 and they work just fine for me at that pressure. No change of feel for +-1psi either.

Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
Ok just been out to check.
Was below 32 so am guessing maybe 30 It's now on 36... Upon inspection of the rear end look what I noticed http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/21/tyvy7y8y.jpg Borked the tail tidy and the bloody plate!!! Am sure it's taken some tread off he rear tyre too!!!! Argh!! Although saying that it was low anyway. Didn't get many miles outta that rear, 6k BT 45s I think ... |
Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
Er that's nowt to do with your tyre pressures
|
Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
I know the plastic screw that holds it on vibrated the nut off and meant the plate was rubbing on the tyre and caused the tail tidy bracket to snap!! argh
|
Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
oh so if anyone has a hamicad tail tidy or something similar - i'm looking to buy...
also i need a number plate asap - anyone? |
Re: Tyre pressures SV650S?
