Vintage film cameras
Having used the Duaflex 620 camera I have decided I want to try some more vintage film cameras. I have just bought this:
http://darrensphotoequipmentinfo.blo...at-camera.html But my next target is this : http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Zorki_4 Pretty much a Leica clone With this also in the pipe: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentax_Auto_110 Sent from my Kindle Fire |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Dust it off and run a film through it.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I was thinking about you and your Duaflex the other day, I've just bought a Zeiss Ikon Mess Ikonta 524/16, it's a 120 rollfilm 6x6 camera with uncoupled rangefinder. Just put a film in it but not taken a single picture yet. I'm checking one of my other cameras against the Pocket Light Meter app (which I can only run on an ipad so a bit cumbersome) then use that as an exposure meter.
I saw one person once, many years ago, with the same Pentax 110, it's a nice idea but the film is tiny, and the Zorki is also fairly compact so the Pentax is a bit of a dead-end IMHO. If you fancy SLR then there are loads of good 35mm ones on gumtree near you for around £30 or less. I've got a couple of Pentax SLRs (might have already said), a Super A and a MX, any of the -X ones are great, though some people seem to think they're worth a LOT of money. Actually, look on gumtree right now, there are two Zorki 4s in your neck of the woods (sort of) for next to nothing. As my wife (rightly) laughed at me for wanting to buy another camera in the mess Ikonta, I really must stop looking at any more ads and just use the ones I've got! |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Have fun! I don't know about the metal tube type but with 6x9 (and probably 6x6 too) bellows-type folding cameras it's good practice to pop the lens out before winding on, as the suction of the bellows extending can pull on the film and bring it forward of the focal plane.
If you find any light leaks around the tube in its extended position you can just put a hair bobble on the tube and slide it back against the body when the lens is extended. |
Re: Vintage film cameras
Just won a Pentax 110 on eBay. It's just for the fun of such a small slr. Will run films through the Koroll and Pentax before I start hunting for another film camera. May get a 35mm slr, most likely a Nikon em or similar.

Re: Vintage film cameras
My daughter's godfather was over at the weekend, I think he has a hankering for some film. He's got a couple of digi cameras but that's about it, I was thinking of helping him find something to get him started. Maybe a rangefinder or SLR but with metering that isn't too hard to use as he'll have no idea what to set anything to. Any suggestions? Maybe a Vito CLR, or Yashica Electro 35, or for SLR maybe Pentax LX or Olympus OM10?
|
Re: Vintage film cameras
I think the OM10 is a good starter or the Pentax K1000. I had an om10 at one point, may buy another.

Re: Vintage film cameras
If you're looking for an old fashioned film SLR, I'd suggest the Nikon FE2. I still have mine and it's just nice to use. If you're willing to wait there have been some real bargains on Ebay. Manual focus AIS lenses are quite affordable too, or you could use more modern glass (except for the 'G' lenses) on it.
Just my thoughts, Keith. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Just bought some Lomography 110 Tiger colour film. Should be here in a few days. The Holga Micro turned up as well. Got my eye on another 110 on ebay.
|
Re: Vintage film cameras
The 110 film arrived today. I have loaded up the micro holga and will load up the Pentax later on. Think the car boot sales start up soon so may go camera hunting.

Re: Vintage film cameras
And a cabinet to put them all in! I ended up with my second rangefinder because it came with a good Ever Ready case, and it was about a tenner - the case alone was going for £15-20. Turned out the camera just needed a bit of a clean, a job not yet finished of course, and will be maybe £30-40 so not bad!
Am now up to 5 pics taken on the MF camera, must take a few more |
Re: Vintage film cameras
The 120 film arrived today for the Koroll. I may have to take a trip to the local boot sale on Sunday and see what is about.
|
Re: Vintage film cameras
Everything is loaded now, the Pentax, Holga and Koroll. Gave the Korell a bit of a clean as well. Dismantled the viewfinder and gave it a clean, and used a blower to remove any dust from inside the body. Can't wait to get shooting.

Off to the car boot again tomorrow, no joy last week.

Picked up a thirties roll film camera from the car boot but it has a fungus problem. On the plus side, the Zorki 4 arrived today, its a Russian copy of a Leica.
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...dac6c203f0.jpg How often do you see made in USSR? http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...1ca49c5967.jpg Its a 35mm coupled range finder. I have some poundland film to run through it as well as some black and white film on order. Also ordered a black and white 620 film for the Duaflex. Sent from my Xperia T |

Nice! What was the other one you picked up?

An AGFA Speedex Clack

Got some black and white 620 film for the Duaflex. I order from Retro Photo Supplies if anyone is thinking of trying a vintage camera.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Good score with the rangefinder. For someone who said their other half would fill them in if they bought an SLR, you've got almost everything else! However check this out
http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/product...y-hd_100398894 cheap as chips, probably an easy fix or just g-clamp it shut when the film is in. Only thing not to like is the stop-down metering |
Re: Vintage film cameras
Well she is in to knitting so it's a fair trade off. Told her she would just have to deal with it otherwise. I have set limits though, must cost £20 or less including postage.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Can anyone advise settings for the Zorki? Loaded with iso 200 film an likely to be cloudy tomorrow. Would 1/125 and f8 do or 1/250 f5.6? The camera is completely manual.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Sounds about right, if in doubt go a stop brighter. Am still working my way through my first 120 film which is Ilford FP4 ISO125, according to the instructions it will tolerate 2 stops too dark or 6 too bright. Count them, 6! A lot of people set the ISO to half the box speed anyway as a way of exposing for the dimmer bits (shadows is a strong word), and certainly from my own pics, overexposure is preferential to underexposure any day of the week.
Have you seen the Pocket Light Meter app? It's for iphone/ipad, my wife has one. There are others but this is the best. Not all phones can have their light meter accessed for an app e.g. my Galaxy Ace can't. |
Re: Vintage film cameras
Cheers for the lightmeter app tip. Just added one. Will see how it gets on.

Re: Vintage film cameras
haha, indeed. I almost bought a Durst Automatic that I spotted on the Bay of Pigs, it went for 99p in the end (one other bidder), I couldn't be bothered bidding against someone when I was really only going to buy it because of its rarity and 99p-ness.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Large bright viewfinder on the Ensign
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psh1fgqzba.jpg It has been stripped and cleaned. I have also re-calibrated the rangefinder on the Zorki. Was a bit out! |
Re: Vintage film cameras
Kind of lost track on eBay. I've got a Pentax P30T, a Coronet Six Six and a Voightlander Vito B coming. Oops.

Re: Vintage film cameras
You've got the disease! I have to admit, I may also be infected. Have just picked up a Vitomatic II (wanted IIa but...) for £3.99 plus P&P on the Bay of Pigs. Skopar lens, unit focus, meter apparently works, but otherwise sold as seen as untested, so hopefully no nasty surprises. There was an Olympus OM-1 going locally for £15, but someone had dibs on it already.
And I still have 3 pictures left on my Ikonta... must get thumb out... |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Hahaha, I love the looked of those, but scale focus AND lack of meter is more than I can be botethred with at the moment.
|
Re: Vintage film cameras
I have a add-on rangefinder if need be, and I was given a free lightmeter with the dented one.
|
Re: Vintage film cameras
The Pentax P30t arrived today. Totally minging. The whole thing was caked in god knows what. Its had a good clean but there is a scratch on the lens and it needs some LR44 batteries to fire up properly. I had some that were best before 2011 and I got the shutter to fire but they will need fresh ones.
|
Re: Vintage film cameras
Hmm whereabouts on the lens, front or back? I think you can smooth it off a bit with some jeweller's rouge or something similar, stop the light flaring off the sharp edge of the scratch. I'd give it a good wipe with alcohol too by the sound of it!
My Vitomatic is on its way, still not told my wife. Am hoping it takes a few days as I am on shift next week and might intercept it. Is this bad? Finally put my 120 film in to Peak Imaging though. |
