What do you carry under your pillion seat / cowl?

Stolen unashamedley from the GM section purely on account of the fact that I thought it was an interesting thread.......

A certain person keeps spare clutch and brake levers as well as spare pegs under their seat - handy but bulky and ominous!

I can't quite catalogue mines at the moment, but I find that you can get more under there each time you try! Photos might be interesting too, either in-place or more impressive spread out on the floor for us all to wonder at!

Does the OEM cowl permit more storage space perhaps. all RELEVANT comments welcome.

Re: What do you carry under your pillion seat / cowl?

Judging by Sunday some peeps obviously don't have a toolkit.

I have:-
  1. Some tape
  2. A can of stuff to sort a puncture
  3. Side stand puck
  4. Standard Toolkit (plus a couple of allen keys and a couple of fuses)
  5. A bottle of visor cleaner solution
  6. Disc Lock
  7. Some cloths
  8. A working 12V cigarette lighter socket. (Useful for travel hairdryers;))
  9. Occasionaly I add a camera.
Oh aye and the OEM cowl definately lets you fit more stuff in.

Nope. Got mates and RAC card see? ;)

1. Scottoiler
2. Cargo net
3. Map of Scotland

all live in there permanently, plus rideout specefic extras as required, e.g. for Sunday...

4. Balaclava
5. Neck warmer (in case it got cold later)
6. Sunglasses (in case the sun blazed away at 4 degrees above the horizon)

Don't want my disc lock rattling around next to the Scottoiler so it lives in the toolkit kaboosh. Fits perfect...

Re: What do you carry under your pillion seat / cowl?

dont know have never taken seat off. Might have a tool kit but as I dont know what Im doing with it, no point carrying it. Think there may be a side stand puck maybe

I had puncture repair stuff under seat cowl at AR04 but it exploded under seat filling cowl with white foamy stuff that dripped out all over rear hugger.

yes.

i could not undo all the little nuts and bolts on the holder the bike came with. so i just taped it under the seat.

dunno if its legal, but it stops it getting nicked, but as my bike is garaged, and rarly left alone, the chances of getting the disc nicked is slim.

kitkat 20-02-08 03:09 PM

Re: What do you carry under your pillion seat / cowl?

no its not legal. tax disc has to be displayed

Nowt under there not even a tool kit (had to be taken out to fit the larger battery) if you're lucky you might be able to get a fag paper under there

No it's not, the tax disc (and i believe, unless it's changed) has to be on the left hand side towards the front of the bike and i think it's a ?30 fine for failure to display a valid tax disc

I carry 3 spare levers under the seats. Sv clutch and brake, plus a gixxer one for my Radial m/c.

Spare pegs, levers, toe pegs, bolts for the rear sets. Both sides.

Fuses, tax disc (don't care if it's not legal. I'm a rebel), bulb set.

WD40, block of wood, get you home fixer-peg.

Custom tool kit with sockets and 3/8 breaker bar.

Cable ties.

Do I win? :D:D

Re: What do you carry under your pillion seat / cowl?

Depends on where I'm going and if my exhaust baffle is in, but

Baffle, allen key and appropriate spanner, Disk Lock, Chain and padlock. Toolkit in the normal place if going any distance, but don't leave it in there day to day as Cupar motorcycles told me they regularly get nicked.

Re the tax disc scenario.

It is held on Police National Computer whether or not the bike is taxed

But

The penalty is for NOT DISPLAYING and wardens will issue ticket for that

All the same my disc is in my wallet

Yeah and that rips my knitting.

They could save loadsa money by removing the need to print and send you out a tax disc now it is all computerised.

I used to have an epic tool kit under the seat. Just now I only have an allen key set, a screwdriver and jumpleads. And a set of levers and a puncture repair kit taped inside the front fairing.

stuartyboy 22-02-08 02:31 AM

In addition to the Johnnies (seriously - old mountain bikers trick to keep my tool from rusting)

Bottle of olive oil from the Aviemore rideout!

Re: What do you carry under your pillion seat / cowl?

Try not to carry much but usually end up with:
Camera
Wallet
Sunglasses
Phone
Keys
Viser cleaner stuff
Map of the area of were i am about to get lost in

I am always paranoid that something is gonna slip through the gaps around the seat into the wheel/chain area :O

Your paranoia is not unfounded, more than once I've had the rider seat off to get stuff back that was rattling around under there. Put the big things in first and small things at the back.
