Lap times?
What's a respectable lap time at Brands Indy for an SV650?
|
Re: Lap times?
In road trim I would say 1 minute is a good target. In race trim the front runners are doing 52 second laps.
|
Re: Lap times?
Thanks, so 1'02 is not embarassing?
|
Re: Lap times?
1'02 is not in the slightest bit embarrassing.
|
Re: Lap times?
Rather than start a new thread, how about an sv650 lap time of snetterton what would be respectable there?
|
Re: Lap times?
Front runners are doing 1m 16s, anything upto 1m 30s is respectable though!
What are you doing at the moment? |

Weazelz is a middle ish inters rider and was just shy of the 1min (58s IIRC) last time we were counting. |
Re: Lap times?
I've managed a 1.24 so i'm more than happy with that at the mo! Standard sv650sport bar a high level exhaust. Need to sort the suspension and brakes out, the back straight is a killer when all the thou's are p****** past you!

if you go on 2 mylaps you will beable 2 type in the track and it will bring you up the results for all races just find a minitwin race and it will give you times for everyone.;) |

Re: Lap times?
Have a look through this, hope that helps buddy. Its has some MRO lap times, so should include mini twins, I ain't got time to go through it all pick them all out.

So I don't need to return to the Novice group on any other track or bike? Oh, and definetely include other tracks on this thread - just probably best to be clear which you are talking about ;) What about you Blue at Brands Indy? |

As for my personal lap record at Brands - on my yella SV it's 52.29. |
Re: Lap times?
So where would I find most of the 10 secs difference?
later braking? I guess? |
Re: Lap times?
What do you guys time your laps with?
I used a duct-taped on cheapo stopwatch at the 'Ring for bridge to gantry timing, but at least there you had a chance to reset between laps. Sounds like fun and gives you more of an idea if what feels like a fast lap is a fast lap. |
Re: Lap times?
You can get proper lap timers, which I will get at some point they lock onto the beacon on the track to make sure they accurate, otherwise attach a beacon to your car/van if you want one best plave place would be motofourm.
|
Re: Lap times?
Oh yea, my best Bridge to Gantry time at the Nurburgring so far is 9:48 including slowing for waved yellows. Aiming for sub 9:45 next time.
|
Re: Lap times?
Most track days don't activate the beacons as they think it encourages racing.
Track Days are "practice days" and are generaly not timed. |
Re: Lap times?
I'm just going by the bike in front of me that I kept up with. He had a proper system, but just manual (push a button, not a transponder) just had a look on ebay & they're generally quite expensive. Plus I'm sure a trackday organiser wouldn't be happy to find you with a transponder - so high chance of losing it?
Is video a good method (obviously you only find out after) Also what should your focus be? passing other bikes or lap times? |

But I'm not bothered about a timer at moment, I have other things to think about. |
Re: Lap times?
I do lap timing at the 'Ring for general interest to see how I'm doing, it's a matter of mind set not to get sucked into racing, I always slow for flags, let faster bikes (and cars at the 'Ring) pass me. Again at a trackday it would be interesting to see your general trends, but I agree that it should be about having fun and keeping safe.
At some of the european track days they provide transponders and move people about the groups depending on their lap times. So I don't think timing automatically means more crashes. |

My time was a 'official' time using a transponder, but for trackdays I'd look at making a cheap make-shift finger operated laptimer - look here You are aware laptiming on a TD is strictly prohibited right?!!? ;) |
Re: Lap times?
That blue make shift item looks ideal, although I'll install an extra switch as beeping over the start finish straight every time might be a bit of a give away ;)

Re: Lap times?
Might be an idea to push the button at a slower part of the circuit every time (like bridge before Druids) might be more accurate than when you're flat out?

I tend to use one of the grid lines at Brands to hit the button. And then try and fight the urge to have a look at the time as I need to be thinking about paddock hill, not looking at my laptime!!! :D As for accuracy, on a trackday, you don't really need to know your laptimes down to hundredths of a second do you!! ;) You never did say if you ran the brakes into turns ... |
Re: Lap times?
No, probably not :( nice & slow before entering any of those dangerous corner thingys. With 4 or 5 people coming off out of the 20 or so that I knew there, I was quite happy to finish the day still upright :)
|
Re: Lap times?
oh, another question. rear brakes? yes use everthing you can or no don't waste your concentration/effort?
