Bike Lift

Hi,

I am looking for a bike lift, but do not want to send a fortune. I need a stand so both the front and back wheels are off the ground so i can remove the front wheel and adjust the chain.

I have been told i can get one that you fit through the hole in the centre of the frame, this will then lift both wheels off the gorund so work can be carried out on the bike. Any idea's what these are called and any good websites on where i can buy?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Andy

Hi,

It maybe a cheaper option, but paddock stands do not allow me to remove the front wheel????

I tried this on Saturday and almost lost the bike on the floor!!!!

Also remember that the chain should be adjusted when the bike is on the flooe on its side-stand.

How not? Front paddock stands support the front end either under the forks (cheap) or under the front yoke (better but more expensive), either one lets you remove the wheel.

I have an Abba stand, and an Abba lift too, and they're both very handy but for 9/10 jobs cheap paddock stands are all you need. You can even get by with just a rear stand and a bottle jack, or a pair of axle stands and a milk crate, or a load of bricks (my favourite with my 125) or you can hang it from the rafters or from a strong ladder or similiar a-frame. But paddock stands aren't expensive and they're easy.

+1, I've done many fast and furious wheel changes minutes before a race using paddock stands. If properly mounted the bike os pretty solid.

How do the mini lifts compare to abba stands?

Mini lifts like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...pf_rd_i=468294

Just realised that there is no lower frame to lift the bike on :)

Re: Bike Lift

problem with mini lifts is that you need a flat underside on the bike to lift with, typically using the engine sump. Every bike I've had has exhausts and other bits and pieces in the way preventing this. The bike is also vulnerable to falling off the stand. They are fairly popular for dirt bikes though.

An Abba stand lifts using engine or swing arm mounting points at the side of the bike frame. Very solid and allows access to the underside of the bike while on the stand. Also good for removal of swing arm, rear shock etc.
