Longer dogbones 41mm
I need your help. When i first got my bike I ordered some longer dogbones. When they arrived there was nothing to indicate that they were the 41 mm ones (the longest of the longer dogbones) instead of the 25mm ones (the normal longer dogbones). Nothing in the accompagnying fitting instructions or on the dogbones themselves. So I assumed these were the 25mm ones. I recently ordered another pair and the seller (ebay) assures me these are the 41 mm ones. Again there's nothing to say they are. I have just compared the new ones with the ones on the bike and they are the same length so that's not going to make any difference. I've measured mine and they are 18 cm long from top to bottom (edge). Is there someone out there that has the longer ones and can tell me if the 41mm ones are 18cm long? I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
yup .. top to bottom .. 180mm ... centre to centre on the eyes is 151mm
i asked the same ?.. and found out for every 1mm over the standard lenght it is 10mm at back you wont find much of a difference unless you drop the front aswell. |
Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
Thanks Bibio. Yeah have dropped the front as well.

Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
So am I right in thinking that the longer the suspension linkages the lower the back end? I'm looking to raise the back end a little so should I be looking for shorter than standard Suspension linkages?

I believe Dangerous Dave recommends no more than 10mm lower on the front forks, he knows his stuff when it comes to SV tuning as he has been doing it since 1999. At least he said something about the forks dropped 10mm when he was talking to my son last week. Hopefully he will be along at some point to confirm. |
Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
yup 12mm max ... for the standard kangaroo's..

Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
12mm is a bit much. Most people go to 10mm max.

10mm is the max and optimum when lowering the entire SV, if you are lowering just the front or jacking up the rear (I know you are not, this is just for reference) you will need to fit new springs and oil to suit your weight. As you are lowering both front and rear the weight distribution will remain virtually standard and no suspension modification/upgrade is required. |
Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
hmmm... my curvy seems to sit quite low at the back, wonder if someone's swapped the dogbones? never even thought of it until i read this thread!

Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
Hi
Is anyone able to advise how much lowering front by 10mm (assume forks/yokes only) and using the 40mm drop dog bones wil lower the seat height itself ?? I am considering a new naked sv650, want to not be tottering on my tip toes for a change! Thanks Jenny |
Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
I'm afraid I don't have the answer for you. On top of lowering of the bike you can also get the seat lowered by taking out some of the foam, you can take out quite a bit. Or buy a new lowered seat directly from Suzuki.
After having ridden my bike for 6 months I have also raised the handlebars using bar risers (naked SV) this makes it easier for shorter people and you can touch the floor even better. |
Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
Thanks WOW, If not too rude a question ;)... what is your height and inside leg ? PM me if you prefer !!! Be good to compare to my own...
I have a test ride set up for the weeke end , but of course this will be standard. Jenny |
Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
I'll PM you. :D

Re: Longer dogbones 41mm
As long as you lower front and rear together you won't have a real problem with the suspension, problem comes when you lower the front only as you put more weight on the poorly sprung front end.
I would advise on a better cut seat first though. |
