I'm an atheist, and I use that phrase quite a bit. I'm sure I haven't offended myself yet!

Idiots. It wouldn't be so bad if they at least got their knickers in a twist over something that was factually accurate. A hymn is a song of adoration: It doesn't mean a religious song, it can be denoted to a living person, or more commonly political party/ideal (lots of communist hymns all over the world that have nowt to do with the man upstairs).

Ho ho.Jobs for the boys and girls.Just shows how much useless fat there is to be trimmed off these organisations. They are clearly stuffed with hords of managers who have nothing better to do than come up with lunacy like this.Maybe, just maybe this financial crisis will have a silver lining in that we will no longer be able to afford to employ these wasters????

No, because people actually doing productive work will just get double-f##ked to pay for these w4nkers.
Gonna be lots more people unemployed soon, use council employees to feed them? Bureaucrat Barbecue :-P

Re: PC Brigade at it again

Meh - non story blown out of all proportion by the Telegraph wanting to claim that political correctness is hurting the mortgages of Middle England or some such twaddle :D

The story was actually about a council trying to curb pointless management dribble speak, "moving forward", "singing from the same hymn sheet", etc. A bracketed side comment about they hymn sheet one was made more to point out the meaningless of management speak - the council did not suggest that anyone might take offense at this. The Telegraph however, reported that they did just that, they also bundled together a bunch of different quotes from a bunch of different councils through the ages, all doubtless researched with the Telegraph's usual integrity and then bundled the whole thing up as another rehash of "Political Correctness Gone Mad!" story - that'll be the same story they've run every week for the last fifty years or so.

Don't worry, tomorrows story about how asylum seekers caused the death of Diana will go ahead as usual. Just like it did last week, and the week before that :D

Re: PC Brigade at it again

The reason why these stories run so well though is that we are all aware of similar nonsense going on in our own environments. My own firm is stuffed with useless managers desperately looking for things to do to justify their existance. And they do come up with daft directives of this ilk from time to time, not all of it PC stuff, but much of it equally stupid,so we are not surprised to read about some "hymm sheet"nonsense.

Good Grief Penfold!

Years ago Lewisham council stopped people from calling Balck bags, black bags, and had to call them Refuse bags. Anyone found calling them Black bags, were sacked!(No pun intended) They then set about trying to rename Blackheath and the words to Ba Ba Black sheep (Which actualy was semi banned in schools) as not to offend people!!

In my expeirence, its the middle class white folk (Doogooders if you will) that make up this crap. A majority of people who think its going to offend really dont give a toss. If its actaully directed at that person, then fine, but its the english laguage ffs, deal with it!!

As for religion, its causes as many wars as Oil and money.

Oh I love Matt's eloquence. He is of course right. It's a story out of nothing. It's true that the council is being daft but is it really worth 1,000 words? Er no.

Most of the "baa baa Rainbow sheep" stuff is proven to be made up, but this still manages to annoy me haha. Just think though, have you actually ever come into contact with Political Correctness like this, or is it all just reading about it in newspapers??

This is weird. Saying British might offend someone!?!?!?!? WTF?

TBH though I prefer to be called English. Notice they say only Scottish Welsh and Irish might complain... looks like the PC wagon missed the biggest bit out.

As for the Aethiest thing, I come under that really and I cant say as I give a damn. As long as no one shoves religion down my neck im happy. I cant stand american elections for this reason... "God bless America?" Sigh. Silly silly. IMO of course.

I wish it was that simple over here . . . the problem is more that people don't know what they are supposed to be.

I'm Northern Irish, was born here so that's what i am but i have work colleagues who have Irish passports but were born here too? so confusing.

Ps. was ****ed when Ron Dennis was interviewed after Lewis won the drivers championship when he thanked everyone back home in England for their support. . . . . I'm sure there was more support from other parts of the UK too?

Britains Andy Murray. . . . .England Lewis Hamilton etc.

Can't be doing with all this political correctness. I've worked in engineering for 25 years and it's even starting creeping in here. You can't b*ll*ck people anymore, you have to counsel them instead! I work in with a few lasses who are mates and there's more than a little sexual inuendo, and even some down right dirty talk! If we worked for a council we would have been sacked ages ago. It's all b*ll*cks in my opinion.

Didn't you know the 'man upstairs' was really a woman...

...reference to the film 'Dogma' where the man upstairs is portrayed by Sheryl Crow

colour blind .. 'colour visual impairment' ? my brother would laugh his socks off at that. Even with a fancy title it still doesn't give him the ability to tell what shirts he can put in together in the wash...lol

I think the awards you're referring to are the MOBOs or "Music of Black Origin".

If we had a MOWO awards, then the only thing we could really have in there is folk and country music, and that would be pretty dull.

Blues, Jazz, Rock (and therefore derivitives like metal), dance, etc all originally developed from the early rythm and blues stuff of the late 30s - 40s.

Personally I do think it's a bit of a sham awards, they should just call it the "Hiphop and Garage" awards as thats what it seems to be these days.

Yeah I was talking about the MOBOs.
The content of possible "MOWOs" wasn't the point... I was simply saying how I feel there are double standards, which is quite ironic considering that they're trying to remove feelings of inequality and discrimination...

Of course it doesn't. It's simply that incidents the other way round are rather less usual. And given the number imbalance, that's hardly surprising. The last well known case that I can think of is when the Asian neighbour of that BNP bloke killed the BNP bloke - racially motivated murder.
