One of the local swans, very friendly (pics not zoomed in, she walked up to me) and a right poser :D

Hehe, nah they're not. I had to watch them for over 10 hours for a project once, they're beautiful creatures, gentle too as long as you don't aggravate them ;)

There's about 5 where I am and there's a little old lady who feeds them and the ducks every day, she's very eccentric and calls them duckies collectively , screeches "here duckieeeeees!" loudly across the harbour, funny to watch especially when she waves her arms wildly at the gulls - she doesn't like them

We have an eccentric old dear that comes on the site all dressed up in high vis to feed the ducks, swan and goose. The swan followed me around for a couple of hours on friday, seems quite comfortable around people and loud machinery.

Oh no wasn't all at once LOL that would have been painful, especially as it was at this time of year so blumin' chilly too! It was for an assignment for Animal Behaviour, had to make an ethogram (complete list of behaviours) for an animal of our choice, I chose the swans. Some people chose their pets, I thought I'd be different

They could give you a nasty nip yeah but they're generally gentle animals, you have to be really threatening them for that to happen. Unless yu get a particularly narky one that just hates humans :p

The thing about breaking a man's arm is a myth, I don't think that's actually happened but I guess people will say anything. You wouldn't want to risk it either way, they're big birds!

Lol, I'm not brave, she was just friendly, thought I was going to give her bread but I was just using her  :p I just don't move quickly then they don't see you as a threat.

I think the swans round here are quite special though, not many animals resist the temptation to fly off/attack when YC's about on his rat, a couple were outside the garage last time he was down and they barely moved despite him riding right near them! I think he was expecting them to move quicker than that  They might just be lazy though!

Very nice pics. The swans - there's a family of em that nest every year on a small mudbank in the River Severn in the town centre. Last year I saw a bloke in a small rowing boat get a bit too close - the male swooped up and attacked him, flapping wings and then pecked him. Bloke was jabbing it with an oar, just made matters even worse. It wasn't funny - well OK it was:D

As I say there will have been a good reason for the attack, i.e. breeding season and territory more than likely. Either that or he just smelt funny
