1 night trip to Paris help!

I want to take the GF to gay Pari for valentines day, but it seems to cost a fortune to get there!!

whats the cheepest way? seems to be with the ferry, but you need a car to get to Dover as train just takes hours.

How easy is it to get from Calis to Paris? or is there a better port to sale to?

I have no knowledge of Paris at all, how easy is it to get about, dont really want to drive, so how is the public transport? cost and ease? Not even sure that I would need to use it though, I want to go to:

Musée d'Eroticisme

Eiffel Tower

Louvre

and go for a cruise on the Seine. Are these things near each other? I think it should be ok and not rushed for 2days? Ive heard that you need to que to get in the Louvre, would it be better to go there on a friday or saturday?

And finally, anyone know any cheep hotels that are easy to get to and easy to get to the places we want to go to?

thanks for any help!! It is needed!! :-D

biggest hint - give her the pressie on valentines day but go a few weeks after! that way you'll save a fortune!

Re: 1 night trip to Paris help!

and flying is probably the cheapest and easiest method.

get any hotel near any of the places you wish to visit, its a small city and so easy to get around. the Metro is a great underground system and cheap too. altho Euro is strong/pound is weak so it may be pricier than im used to

Re: 1 night trip to Paris help!

We found the Eurostart was the cheapest method. £45each return we paid. What are they charging now?

Keithd speaks sense on the travelling/timing front.

Paris has a decent Metro system so use it and stay in the 'burbs

I wanted to go on friday the 13th early and come back on sat 14th late. it ties in nicly with when we are both free.

Euro star was looking at about £70 each i think...

I'm with Keith go in spring around April time it will be cheaper and the weather should be a bit warmer by then too.

Re: 1 night trip to Paris help!

Public transport in Pair is very cheap. You will definately need it.
2 days is plenty of time to do that. Also check out this place:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&...-8&sa=N&tab=wl

It sits really high and over looks the rest of Paris. Its a wonderful place to see. Also if you head west you will hit the old 'Bohemian' part of the city where the artists used to hang out.

Wouldn't want to drive my own car in Paris. Too much aggro and risk. use public transport

The only other option is by coach? Bit slow, but cheaper?

Master of understatement. Truely beautiful building - worth the climb to see the rose window from the inside.

Obviously, you'll want to do the other famous "churchy thing" too - Notre Dame :-D

Don't forget to leave time for La Pigalle ;-)

You must be bonkers to want to go around Valentine's Day, you and the rest of the romantic blokes in the country lol. Place will be heaving, can't think of anything worse. I'd rather go to a place I know won't be full of people, but then I'm weird like that. Picnic under a tree would do me or a ride out on the bike :-P (just in case YC is about hehe)

Don't get me wrong it's a lovely idea, but I agree with KeithD and Tara, go when it's quieter, you'll enjoy it much more. Or maybe you won't and I should shush lol.

Don't forget about it completely, book now for later on in the year and show her the tickets on the day. Don't forget Valentine's day is just a farce and you don't need one day to demonstrate your feelings. There you are, cracked it ;-)

I accidentally rode my bike in Paris, I took a wrong turn on one of the motorways and ended up on the periphique.

The cheapest Eurostar fair is 29.99 each way, if you go at peak times/dates then it'll be more expensive.

I wouldn't go by ferry (or coach), the train is much nicer. The train is also quicker than flying (once you take into account the time it takes to get to and through the airport).

I went on the 12th Feb last year, weather was fuggin awesome. I had loadsa photos but deleted them off this computer :(

We were in a hotel called Jardines D'eiffel. 5 mins walk away from the tower and had a tower view, albeit limited but still could see it flashing away at night. We just walked around for the day amazed at it all, wonderful place and there are so many things I wanna go back and see. Which is why for £180, we will this year be doing the Parrys coach tour instead so we can see more.

EDIT: See here for my crappy snaps http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w46/plowsie/Paris/

Oh I forgot about the scammers under the efiel tower!!!

Myself and Kerri were walking under it when a Rose Seller offered to give one to Kerri. I said to Kerri no less than 5 times, do not take the rose, do not take the rose, I have only got a 50 Euro note do not take the rose.

What did she do??? She took the Rose!!!

So instead of the Romantic ah I got a rose, give the Seller 5 euros behind me all cool sophisticated and sauve it turned into me asking the Seller to give me change, argueing that he didn't give me enough, he then threw a few more coins into my hand, threw a few more Roses at Kerri and bolted!!!
