I'm Back.

Hey all

Just wanted to say hi and the I am almost back on the road again after putting a deposit on my new baby

And here she is

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...ke/newbike.jpg

Unfortunately the SV has gone to a new home as a race bike. Cant wait to get back out there.

On a separate note - has anyone had any experiance of BKS leathers? I have my eye on these

http://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/p...20Piece%20Suit

but cant find any reviews or comments on them - anyone using them ??

Cheers
J

James Toseland seems to think they're OK, which is good enough for me!

Apparently the new BKS are made by Fank Thomas, which doesn't bode well...someone more knowledgeable will no doubt be along soon.

Oh dear, another one who believes that what Toseland wears is what you or I could buy.

BKS have been bought out by Frank Thomas. What this basically means is the gear you find on the racks with a BKS badge and a 600 or 700 quid price tag is made by the same slave labour, with the same materials in the same far east sweatshop as the cheapest nastiest Frank Thomas gear.

In other words, avoid it like the plague.

BKS were one of the most respected leathers companies in the world, in one fell swoop they managed to lose all credibility and any semblence of quality control when FT bought them out.

Fwiw, Mr Toseland's leathers are made by a small dedicated team in the west country who specialise in made to measure. That team have nothing at all to do with the far eastern mass produced crap that bears the same badge and is sold in shops around the country.

It might also be worth mentioning that Frank Thomas Groupare currently in severe financial hardship and have even had to sell their flagship HQ in Higham Ferrers at a greatly reduced price just to get some cash in the bank - though £700k won't go far in their business. They have recently made over 40 staff redundant and shut down two of their companies, Lintek and Bikezone.

Nice, how much did that set you back?

I am fitting the Yoshi system (R-77) to mine right now...upgrading from the slip-on, in the quest for a better sound (oh and a nice bit of power of course).

That is true, but FT only own BKS and they do not stick there noses into the manufacturing process of BKS leathers.

I've got those Arlen Nessies and they're real nice. As soon as i tried them on i knew they were for me, so comfy straight away no wearing them in, they just felt right. Quite pricey but i feel worth it, i also brought the gloves and boots as part of a deal from HG. The gloves are fantastic so if your a tart like me then perhaps look into them aswell at £120 though they are expensive!!!

Re: I'm Back.

Aaah but would you still say that if the Dainese were £200 cheaper than the arlen ness ones ??? :-)

no.

Re: I'm Back.

You're not going to get such a radical colour scheme as that and expect it to please everybody!
I like it fwiw
It's a good reason to choose the Dainese over the A'Ness - plain black not introducing another colour (even white) into the mix.
Just don't tell Lozzo you're buying Dainese

Stretch650 19-01-09 05:20 PM

Re: I'm Back.

Hey Stu !!

I know its a bit of a marmite dialemma isin't it!! Its ok though as i love it and thats all that counts in this situation!

I agree with you on the leathers - Flash bike + Flash Kit = FLASH GIT !! Not 100% sure on the styling of the Dainese so now also looking at an AlpineStars Octane suit!

Look forward to seeing you guys in Soho soon (that sounds quite dodgy - but it isin't ... honest :-) )

Nice bike!

Needs to be all Black leathers, helmet etc.

Hey Strech, sorry to hear about your accident, didn't see it at the time so I've only just seen what happened

I actually thought you had chosen the bike to match your helmet! (assuming you actually have that one in your avatar, can't remember)
I think it would work well :)

Stretch650 20-01-09 11:18 AM

Re: I'm Back.

I do indeed have the helmet in my avatar although this was not the main reason for buying the bike! It was a deal i couldn't pass up !! Should look pretty good though when it is all together!

All black leathers for sure - now looking at an AlpineStars SP-1 Suit(black), Supertech R Boots(black) and GP Pro Gloves (black/white)!!

Sorry, but I beg to differ. The mass produced BKS stuff is all made in the far east. Only the made to measure stuff is made over here at the factory in the west country

Lozzo 20-01-09 11:25 AM

Re: I'm Back.

I'd buy the Arlemn Ness every time, certainly wouldn't spend anyone's money on Dainese or Alpinestars.

Trust me on this, leathers and the safety aspect of them was my bread and butter for a few years.

Stretch650 20-01-09 02:32 PM

Re: I'm Back.

Than you for the advide Lozzo - I am just a bit concerned about them being a bit too flashy! I do really like them but as said before dont want to look like on e of those flash gits you see prancing around - all the gear no idea! (this may be hard with a orange bike mind)

I have found a really good deal on the new 2009 SP-1 suit (2 piece)

http://www.hondaofbournemouth.co.uk/... BLK-WHITE.jpg

knowing how you feel about A* and Dainese you probably wont have much to say on these either!
