Most people on this forum hate alpinestars, and i've heard the moto gp riders called 'walking adverts'. You are really paying for the label, and not the best protection.
Hein Gericke's own stuff is supposed to be pretty good. RST gear always seems to have good reviews.

Nip down to HG, might have some good deals going on.
Got my set for £200, jacket and trousers..
Look 'flash' as you put it, which is important for me to, as only 17..
When you 17?

Oh and also, never buy online unless you've tried them on first. And as i've been told, if leathers feel comfortable when you first wear them, then they're probably too big.

Have you considered textiles instead? I have an alpinestars t-dyno jacket. It's proved to be waterproof and comfortable. The same can be said about my HG textile trousers.

OK the important post in the thread you have linked to is this one by Lozzo

http://forums.sv650.org/showpost.php...7&postcount=18

He used to sell this stuff, and I'd be inclined to listen to what he says. At the end of the day cheap leathers are cheap leathers, I've got A* leathers but my jacket was almost twice the price of the one you're looking at and I'm also a label tart and I wanted something that matched my bike.. what I'm saying here is dont get carried away by the label on the jacket OK.

Remember dont touch Frank Thomas stuff with a bargepole ( I'm basing this on my own personal experience ) and dont think the stuff we buy off the peg from the shops bears any resemblance to what the racers wear.

Agreed on the advice about trying on before you buy, If theres a branch of J & S Accessories near you anywhere, have a look in there often they have reductions / end of line stuff and you can pick up a bargain sometiimes.

I'd also recommend you think about a seperate back protector to. Dont rely on the bit of sponge in the back of the jacket....

Re: Leathers HELP!

I have the a*s octane suit it's very comfy, not too badly made (IMO, by the look/feel of it) and I like the styling (granted the advert is a bit big). However I've heard if you tarmac surf too long you'll lose sleeves and other bits.

Ye i used to own a RS50.
I just wore textiles on my 50, didnt see the need for leathers, were too expensive, textiles kept me warm + dry, and bought a pair of draggin jeans for summer.
Where you from mate?

I don't think £200 will get you much, however HG were doing the PSX Track II, 2-piece suit for £199 (or £149 depending on the store you go to). It usually retails for £380+ but you might struggle to get the sizes you need.

whats a dp?

i have crashed twice in my £200 HG celtic leathers, once over a car and once sliding across the tarmac.

IMO they did what they are meant to do, i will get HG leathers next time

Hemel is north-west of London, in west herts, I know casue I'm from that area.

I'm happy with my HG leathers, but I have to wear the smallest size in them, size 48.

hemel is north of london.

the bike is reasonable, clutch going on it, fixing that this half term.

SO the conclusion of this banter is that A* are not too great, pricing and not well made.
Arlen ness, berik, HG r good

any1 know anything about weise or scott ???

But as said I bounced and rolled..I didn't slide. People have sead they shred when they've seen racers come off on the track....but people crash differently to the roads on the track. You hit stuff on the roads, you slide on the track.

You do certainly slide on the road as well.

I've got some teknics which cost me about £25 second hand and I would not hesitate to get another set.

Well I know but you're not as likely to, there are lovely soft cars, curbs, street signs, lampposts, fences, walls etc to stop you :)

I'm undecided on whether they're decent quality, one thing I know for sure though is you can get better for your money elsewhere. I bought the two piece suit for about £350 reduced from £550 so went for it. You don't want to buy the octane jacket on it's own either as it looks weird without being zipped in.

I'll try get a photo but if you try to imagine my accident, I hit my head on the rear windscreen/roof top beam after the bike impacting on his boot about 40mph, flipped over the car landed on my head went over on my shoulder than rolled a few, maybe half a dozen times.

BTW, the bmw sport integral helmet did amazingly well I kept conciousness all the way through (ouch). Just ordered a replacement today, really well made.

Have you ever bought alpine start leisure clothing? It's cheap and smeels like **** when it arrives...that put me off their leathers a bit - I emailed them to tell them this but they didn't bother to respond.

I've got an Alpinestars textile jacket I bought for £200, 10 years ago, and am only just starting to think I should replace it, so can't fault it really.

George Whites in Slough have a great upstairs clothing section, some good looking Frank Thomas textiles for £70, and I'm sure they have some leather jackets too!

Aye but they were made in a different factory 10 years ago.
