Surrey Bikesafe
Has anyone attended the Surrey Bike safe run from Dorking? I am booked in for this Sunday and was wondering what the guys that run it are like etc. Took a run down there to suss the place out and ended up riding past 2 bike cops and im guessing an undercover bike.
Any idea on the routes they take and if its actually any good? Cheers, Ash. |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
I've done it - excellent value day and a good bunch of people. It's a mixture of bike cops and IAM and I think we all had 1-1 ratio.
The roads are great - did a load of the back roads around Guildford, Cranleigh etc in the tipping rain and had a great laugh |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
A few of the IAM guys run it as well as the Police. Should be great.

But most likely you'll be on roads you have to be good to be able to reach the limit. |

Re: Surrey Bikesafe
maybe I just got a cop that didn't give a ****? When he was leading I couldn't keep up on the straights....
he just said he wanted us to ride like we do normally so he could give us feedback and make us as safe as possible, he said there's no point him giving us feedback if we're playing up to the badge and riding fake. Goin a bit off topic anyway; arcdef - well worth it |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
Well what a brilliant day for it! Really enjoyed myself and think i have come away with enough to help me plan whats coming up etc etc.
Started off abit slow as i was paired with a woman scared of going over 30 in a bend, who was constantly getting left behind, but they paired me with someone else after lunch and we really just went for a long ride around the south. Very nice way to spend a sunday. |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
Good stuff, has it made you think about further training?
I know a good group noo soo far from Guildford. ;) (I won't mention the acronynm thru fear of being pelted by rotten fruit) |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
yeah, well ive been thinking about IAM for months now, Mark_h will confirm this........but im always working sundays and no point joining until they are free.
Speaking of which, are you free to go for a ride any time soon? |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe

Re: Surrey Bikesafe
kool, well let me know, guess what im treating myself to next march ;)
|
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
an ice-cream...?
Mind you, it'll be march, far too cold, you'd be better off getting a hot chocolate or something? |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
march isnt cold, just defrosting :).
What you thinking of test riding? |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
Trumpet Street R (again) think its make or break!
Have done over 200 miles on the std, and tbh its good enough, but id like to re-feel the R. Lack of storage bugs me still, and how it will cope with winter. BUT at least they have made a frame so I can use soft panniers. Whoop Whoop! Aren't you after the same thing? |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
well once it comes to it ill be trying that and the speed triple, everytime i go in the local bike shop there is one gleaming away at me. dam temptations!
Tbh the under seat storage on my sv struggled to get a booklet and two bottles of water in today, will you really be missing out? |
Re: Surrey Bikesafe
hell yeah, the pointy must be different, Its like a tardis!
disc lock, pucture repair kit, tax disc, cargo net, scottoiler, and a spare pair of gloves. its all possible on a pointy. |
