Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. - Pay them £1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed. 2) They MUST buy a new British CAR. Twenty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed. 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed. 4) They must send their kids to school / college /university - Crime rate fixed 5) Buy £50 of alcohol / tobacco a week there's your money back in duty / tax etc |
Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
Where are you going to find a British car?
|
Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
Stunning!
The VAT on the cars/fags/alcohol alone is, er a very big number:smt101, a lot of money going straight back to the Treasury + all the other benefits to the economy. Surely there is a do-able number at say 60yrs old that could be funded. |
Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
Ok so where does the £2,000 billion come from?

Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
So, £50 a week on alcohol/tobacco......the money will need to go straight back into the NHS when they are filling hospitals with all manner of health problems.
Also....how many 50 year olds or over are putting children through school? Maybe a handful that have had questionable IVF or have to care for grandchildren. Crime rate unaffected. Just my thoughts.................but oh how lovely it would be if money did grow on trees!!! |
Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
I give you all....Quantative Easing....The money we don't see that is supposed to recover the economy!

Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?

Wont deny that maths never was my strong point anyway. If 20 people got £1 million each it would be £20 million If 20 million people got £1 million each...oh sod it :p |
Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
Hello All, sounds like a good idea.....if you are over 50
|
Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
So...the treasury loses 10-15years of income tax payments x 20,000,000.
Bad plan I think - the recession won't last that long! |

Re: Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?
Heh
20 million new job vacancies in the UK eh. Sweet. Pity that there would only be maybe 5% of the current employment pool that would be suitably qualified/experienced. :P |
