Rear shock for curvy?

Hi guys,

Seen a few ZX10R shocks on fleabay too! do they fit the SV?

Re: Rear shock for curvy?

The one you have linked is a GSXR shock and the spring rate is softer than the standard curvy.

ZX10r shock do fit as long as it isn't the 08 one.

check out this thread http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=138682 and http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=137793

its talks about ZX10R/ZX6R shocks and has helpful links to other threads on this.

its a good read :thumleft:

I think I know what he means! Just been on fleabay looking at ZX10R shocks and saw one off an 08 bike and the top mounting is different from earlier models! :)

I had a Zx6 rear on mine, then fitted a ZX10R. Makes one heck of a difference. Gixxer ones normally go on pointies.

you can take that top mounting off, its just a bolt holding it in. I'm sure someone here can confirm that ;)

it does depend on the year of the shock as each year has a different spring rate. Here is a chart by CheGuevara

08 ZX10R shock spring is softer than standard curvy according to those that have fitted one and is in fact too soft by their experience. Documented on this forum....

so a ZX10R 08 does fit, but it maybe too soft for some. :D

Cheers LP.

Lucas sorry my wording was wrong. I meant Zx10r shocks do fit but don't get the '08 shock.

If it was too soft for The Shadow, it's probably too soft for all.... but yes it does actually fit onto the bike

Re: Rear shock for curvy?

So did you manage to get the shock fitted if so... do you personaly find it to soft?

Luckypants - i am at least 11 stone (maybe!) :D

Had a root around & found this pic on SVrider.
I'm about 13.5 stone & the shock is fine, knocks spots off stock. You will just need to set it up.

This is a 2008 ZX10 rear

Here is my ZX10 Shock. Looking at the 2, there isn't a lot of difference.

Apart from the spring rate. The '08 spring rate is lower than curvy stock.

Luckypants 11-09-09 09:54 AM

Re: Rear shock for curvy?

Col

04-05 ZX10-R shock = 10.0 Kg/mm
06-07 ZX10-R shock = 8.3 Kg/mm
08 ZX10-R shock = 9.1 Kg/mm

Curvy shock = 9.1 Kg/mm (from table on previous page)

According to the Racetech website. The 04-05 shock is about 10% stronger than curvy standard spring, so maybe an 08 would be OK i.e. basically same spring rate with some damping.

The Shadow fitted an 08 shock to his curvy and was too soft for his 12st frame according to him - too much sag even with full preload. Perhaps he had a duff one or an 06-07 shock from a late registered bike, that was wrongly described by the seller? Only he can shed light on this.

Except a completely different shock bottom, reservoir adjuster which looks like a hi-lo speed type rather than simple bleed type on 05-06 and the reservoir pointing the opposite way.

To me that says it is a totally new design and the comparison can only be extended so far as "they are both definately shocks".

Re: Rear shock for curvy?

My shock Definitely looks like a 2008 shock. Here is a pic before i installed it.

I dont think it is duff as it does absorb shock pretty well. I.E if you where to bounce up on down on the bike it settle pretty quickly no wallowing or "springyness"

Go buy an Ohlins, they do one specifically for a curvy and it's worth every cent believe me. I know, as I've got one and it's night and day. Our roads here are ****e and my shock works wonders, it's like you're on a magic carpet.

So it's better then a stock anyway? It should suit a 11st? :D

2 drinking straws full of lard are better than stock.

Setting the HSC/LSC should entertain you for a while.
