Hovis, the Cardiff Half Marathon

Well peeps,

I have recently got off the phone with the good people at Channel 4.

They can't promise to get anything organised as yet, but will be in communication with me over the next 10 days to see if they can fit something in to the programme on Sunday 18th giving coverage of the Cardiff Half Marathon. They have been incredibly touched and suprised at the number of messages on Lilys RIP thread and by the total now raised for Velindre Cancer Care and I will communicate with Lily over their involvement as well.

I will update this post as I recieve news.

One thing that they did mention was the possibility of having a group of us there in support. One large group all wearing one colour (yellow of course) would make for fantastic tv (I expected nothing less than for them to consider that) and so my question is:-

Would anyone be prepared to go to Cardiff on the 18th and support our fallen friend in his support of this very deserving charity???

Attendees:-

2/ Stretchie

-Also I emailed the organiser's of the half marathon last night and explained what has happened. I also spoke of how the fund raising had gone from just over 200 to over 1000 in just under 24 hours since we found out.
I should hear back from them today (hopefully) I requested if somebody could run in his name or could a group of us share the distance to complete the run in his name. As soon as i have a reply.... I will post it on here!

Didn't he want to run it in that godawful bananaman costume? Seems only fitting that whoever runs the marathon does so in that costume!

I'm up for it!

However I guess that this means that you won't be at the Burlesque weekend...should I cancel it?

Is anyone running the Marthon in place of him? Verna has put her hand up if its at all possible?

Id love to run it for him - how ever I have done no training what so ever. Hopefully Phil and I can be there to show our support.

Excellent..... someone who will get round is a bonus!

Reading between the lines, it has yet to be confirmed that this can be done. Can't see 'em saying "No" though

I'd like that, seems fitting that somebody almost as bonkers as Hovis was would run in his place

Fair point, didnt see that. Verna's offer still stands. If it is possbile, and FIL doenst do it, can someone PM me and Verna.

gruntygiggles 05-10-09 10:54 AM

Re: Hovis, the Cardiff Half Marathon

Right guys, I have had a few PMs of people wanting to run for Hovis, so we will wait for a few things to happen and then we can come to some decision on that. We need to wait for:-

1. Hovis' mum and family to give their permission, I feel it would be wrong to arrange this and do it without their approval
2. Velindre Cancer Centre organised Hovis' entry, so we need to hear from them if someone can run in his place, and if so, how many.

Hopefully, the support will be there and whether we have one runner or many, I think it would be fabulous to have a large contingent in yellow on the start/finish line to drum up support and cheer on our runner(s) on the ground and our favourite runner in the sky!!!

gruntygiggles 05-10-09 11:01 AM

Re: Hovis, the Cardiff Half Marathon

I am writing this now as my head has been a little fuzzy. I just read a PM on facebook that I had off Hovis AGES ago about running in which he mentioned FIL as being a massive massive support to him, so if only one person is able to run in his place, I think maybe Foxy should be the one. I know how very dearly she wants to do it and will even wear the costume, so just throwing that out there.

Foxy, if you add me on facebook (cheryl bray) and PM me, I'll send you a copy of that message xxx

I'll chuck my name in the hat to run for him. I'd nominate myself because I'm a a member of the taffia and I've known him a while and rode a lot of miles with him over the years and plus I came up with the idea first ;). A though a group of runners would be cool too.

Ok hun....we were talking about this yesterday and a few of us have had PMs from different people. I don't think any one person therefore can make the decision if we are only allowed to have one runner, so I'll leave it to you runners to decide.

Hope you're ok Chris x

That's fine. I'm not going to be fussy if someone else is chosen though I sort of feel like I'm obliged to make my case if you understand. I've got more links in south wales and I'd try and get more sponsors from my thai boxing gym, university and a couple of other communities I'm involved with.
