Hopefully just a fuse :) Little fuse box under your seat check them all, swap for a spare if in doubt.

probably just a fuse as said above...good luck!

Re: No side lights, brake lights, rear lights and dashboard lights

the Headlights are on a separate fused circuit, so it does indeed sound as if that's your problem, if the fuse for the lighting appears to be good, change it for a spare anway, should that not work check the wires going to the actual fuse holder under the plastic block as that can break.

Cheers Mark.

Was all well and good... Finally got it sorted...

Rode about a mile... And she cut out again. Same problem as before.

Any ideas ?

Re: No side lights, brake lights, rear lights and dashboard lights

did you change a fuse to get it running again? Or did it just randomly work?

Re: No side lights, brake lights, rear lights and dashboard lights

What Dave said...how did you get it going again in the first place??

Sounds like a short somewhere. Check behind the seat bolts, as this is a known place for it- the wires rub against the bolts and wear through.

Re: No side lights, brake lights, rear lights and dashboard lights

There was one spare fuse left so used that to get it started again.

as sean says above, check your wiring out. And keep plenty of spare fuses in your toolkit just in case.

Yes, definitely.
When it happened to me, I ran out of fuses very quickly. Now I carry a stack of them around under the seat- and also something to fix the problem if I can find it at the side of the road.
I'm hoping sod's law will work here, as I'd much rather not have to use them :p

Agree, check your wires, check your block connectors (any burning or melting) check the pins for corrosion and preferably spray with something antirust worthy (GT85, wurth penetrant spray etc.)

I still carry spare fuses in my toolkt...even tho the wiring issues were on my old bike that is now in bike heaven somewhere.

So i;m the same as you, hoping the threat of carrying extra fuse wil ensure my fuses behave themselves!

pmsl, it seems like it affects all us of ex-curvey riders. maybe we need to start a support group to wean ourselves off carrying about stuff we really, really dont need.

Had to come in on the back of his 636 today :(

Will have to take a proper look over the weekend.

Take a look at the wiring around the headstock. My housemate's bike went through about 15 fuses while trying to get it working, and we eventually discovered that the insulation had rubbed away and water had got into the loom. Lots more rubbing+water = shorts.

philbut 13-11-09 10:05 AM

Re: No side lights, brake lights, rear lights and dashboard lights

walkabout andy on here also had a similar problem, that was traced to worn insulation on the loom. i'm afraid it's just a case of gettin the pannels off to have a peek at the loom. Pay particular attention to any pinch points or points where it might conceivably rub on the frame etc. There are the most likely points for a short.

good luck!
Phil

Funnily enough since owning the pointy, the curvy has refused to start 3 more times, pointy has been faultless.

don't know much about 650 as yet as its my wife's but i know on the sv1000 there are 3 connectors under the front of the air box these are prone to burning out may be worth pulling them apart and applying some electrical grease. like i say don't know if the 650 have these but my thou does and i know it can be a common problem on the sv

I had the same problem with my curvy, eventually traced it to the back brake blowing the fuse. No idea where the fault lay, I ended up swapping the entire wiring loom in the end. Electrics are a pain in the ass I'm afraid. Good luck.

Check all of the earth blocks and points, i had a problem where all my lights died, indicators were on static and everything on my dash was lit up, turned out to be a manked up earth block behind the front fairing :( (but mines a pointy)
