Any reason for it not starting?

Evening all, I got a little bored today so decided that after the success of all my tinkering with the curvy last week, that I'd have a crack at some of the things which bother me with the pointy.
Did a nice service, sparks, oil filter oil etc. Checked her and she started up fine puts everything back then carried on with sorting out the wiring in the back.
The (already limited) space under the pillion seat where I like to put my lunch has been full of wires for as long as I've owned the bike and I decided to re-route them all so that most of them are now on the outside of the rear sub-frame. Connected it all back up again and everything seems to be working 100% fine apart from one tiny issue. It wont start! Ok a big issue but I dont see a reason why it shouldnt start but obviously the imobolisor is kicking in because all that happens when you push the start button is the headlights flicker off.

I'll be tinkering again tomorrow but I just wondered if any of you had any "try this" comments to maybe speed up the re-build.

Its the CAT1 Acumin which suzuki offer, and all the connectors are unique so there are defo no crossed wires.

If the headlights are dimming then starter is getting current. Battery flat?

Re: Any reason for it not starting?

the alarm is happy to sound the siren, and the indys are all flashing plus the headlights are still v bright. Im worried if I take it out on to the main road and try to bump start it. If its an imoblisor fault I'll end up at the bottom of a massive hill with a very long and hard push in front of me lol. So anyone in the area and fancy a laugh, ill be the mug pushing a blue pointy up high town road.

To update; matt's bikes still not working, he's charged the battery and it still won't start the lights just dim. He's cvhecked fuses and is checking block connectors and terminals.

Any ideas?

Dead battery? bad earth? immobiliser? I hate electrics...

you failed to mention reg rec

Re: Any reason for it not starting?

Battery is a working battery, I've swapped it too the curvey and vice versus fully charged both as well...
Its defo something to do with the immob or the wiring but I dont know how to test either and nor can I take it anywhere.

Anyone in the area know much about motorbike electrics/acumen cat 1 alarms?

It's been fully charged and not ridden anywhere, you should get atleast one start or some change in symptoms AFAIK the reg/rec will only be a contender if it's showing signs of no power after a ride.

There might be a fuse inline with your immobiliser/alarm but I think if that'd gone it wouldn't work at all/would let you know. Sounds like a dodgy connection or something to me.8-[

Did you check the block at the front of the airbox? just thinking as the ignition passes through there IIRC and if it's melted like they're known to it might explain something.

Apparently there's also a block connector in the plastics round the screen but I dunno if this has anything to do with your ignition might just be lights.

Has a worn wire maybe blown one of your fuses when you have touched it agains't the subframe?

Owenski 26-11-09 01:12 PM

Re: Any reason for it not starting?

checked both the 30A at the battery, and the half dozen under the pillion seat.
All are fine but ill be swapping some over etc to be 100% certain.
Havnt checked that block under the tank (im at uni now until 4) will have a look when I go home.

BTW the bike worked 100% fine before I feck'd with it so the chance of something wearing out at the same time as Im messing with stuff at the opposite side of the bike are very slim.

Re: Any reason for it not starting?

I think the later SVs switch off the headlights when the starter button is pushed - so don't necessarily assume the starter motor is getting current.

Re: Any reason for it not starting?

Yeah nice of them to feed all that current all way up another set of connectors. pr***s

It seemed the carbs were missing and it had these funny pipe things with lots of wires attached to them instead. Anyway I put the meter on it set to "gay 0-150k" scale and they measured in at about 110kSG (110000 stephen gately units of gayness). So from that I reckon that it must have EFI on it.

Re: Any reason for it not starting?

Something wrong with sidestand cutout setup so just made some rude gestures at it and delivered it a terrific mauling with some wire cutters and bypassed it. 5 minutes soldering to sort it when we'd traced fault!
