Car accidents and insurance?

Just curious as my mate hit some one today on the way out of college it was his fault. The car he hit was shunted into the car in front of the one he hit, I was sure that the way insurance would work was if the woman at the front claimed she would have to claim off the car in the middle then they would claim that back off my mates insurance. The woman at the front was saying she was claiming for whiplash and my mate is determined that he wont loose his no claims or have a claim against him because the lass that he directly hit said that she wouldnt claim because her car wasnt damaged etc. Any one had any experience with that type of thing?

My car was the middle car in a similar scenario many years ago. We both claimed off the muppet who caused the accident.

I have faced the same incident few months ago and I ma in the first car and since I don't have any damage to my car and me I did not claimed for any insurance.

unfortunately your mate is responsible and any claims will be on his insurance.

Whiplash when the car in the middle wasn't damaged? Rofl.

As I understand it;
What you will have is an argument to say whether there is a claim there or not, she will say there is, your mates insurance co will try and prove that there isn't.

If there is a claim there, then it will go on your mates insurance as an at fault accident. Tell him to watch where he's f*ckin going next time!

Yeh, it'll be your mates insurance that will have to pay up for this!

Was the middle car made of granite or something?

How can he damage the front car but not the middle one?

Anyway... As above, he's liable for the damage caused to both cars, whether they both claim from him or decide to daisy chain it his insurance will be paying for it and he'll be losing his NCB

Tell him to MTFU and not drive into people:smt075;)

Unleeesssss...

Middle car genuinely isn't damaged and front car bint is after a bit of

Now the rules could have changed & probably have but a friend of mine was the middle car in a situation like this a number of years ago.
The insurance company of the person that hit him argued that he had not stopped in the correct fasion & applied the handbrake or his car would not have shot forward into the one in front, they won the case & he lost his NCB.

Excellent idea!!!

My driving intructor always said to apply the handbrake when you stop and therefore wouldnt shunt someone infront should someone hit you from behind.

Of course the person he hit at first may change their mind and claim for some "damage" discovered after the event so he'd lose his NCB then.

I am digusted by the whiplash claim though. If your geniunely hurt then fair enough (as i was) but the "aha it wasnt my fault cash in time" sickens me.

Re: Car accidents and insurance?

Have been called by police to a few jobs like this i.e. minor shunt, minimal damage, no airbags deployed etc usually get met by copper who says it sounds like a "there's a pain there's a claim" type scenario but because someone is reporting an injury we can't be too careful.

Often once you point out that as they are reporting central spinal/neck pain they need to be fully immobilised with a collar and board, also we need to get the fire brigade to cut the roof off your car since the design/positioning of your car means we can't slide you out on a rescue board and would you mind if I put this needle in your arm in case we need to give you any drugs they often feel much better. Occasionally they are genuine even after an apparently trivial collision but I think a lot of people do take the mick. Even had one person state their child had neck pain but as soon as he was told they needed to go to hospital he soon changed his tune... How sick was that?

Your instructor drove another of these granite cars then, because the impact wouldn't push you forward even with the handbrake on, of course.

I had a minor tap with a guy, his 4x4 was completely undamaged because his big bumper had dented my front fender. He agreed at the roadside that his car was likely undamaged and so long as his mechanic agreed that would be that.

A few days later his insurer calls and I ended up having to put a claim in. I want to blame the guy but know it was probably his wife who made him put it in!
