Hi all!
I'm new here, seems like a good site for all things SV.
I'm hoping to get my own SV in the next few weeks - once this snow's shifted and I can start shopping properly that is. Some local dealers have a few examples on offer, although I'm still undecided exactly which model to go for. The curvy S models seem to go for a reasonable price, so I guess they will be my first choice. Anyone else from Sussex here? I noticed a Guildford section in the Rideouts area. |

Welcome aboard, lots of friendly advice and banter, generally a very good spread of members would also be worthwhile posting your "Hi all" in the region where you live.

Thanks for the welcome everyone, I'll mosey over to the Guildford section to see what's what.
Is the pointy version vastly improved over the curvy - or are opinions based on the bike some folk have got in their possession? |

it looks nicer, fuel injected, so no faffing arround with chokes n the likes on cold days

I'm guessing Power Commanders are more expensive than Dynojet kits mind... although easier to just download a fuel map and be done with it I guess.
One of the local bikes is a nice '04 unfaired example... |

Hi! I have a pointy - but have to admit those curvy's that aren't crawling with corrosion look better. But you know, modern technology and all that! Good choice on SV though, would have been so much better off with one from the off rather than that sh***y Eliminator!

I've had both a curvy and a pointy. I miss my curvy sometimes and then it gets cold and the fi on the pointy does its thing and starts first time without a faff. However i had the best curvy (blue and naked) and now have the best pointy (red with black frame, half faired) so my opinions are worth far more than most peoples on this site. Oh dont feed the wildlife after midnight, keep your hands an feet inside the car at all times and enjoy the ride ;) |

i recommend you get a curvy but make sure its a naked they look loads better, the best colour to buy is in yellow as well.
but the curvy's is best if your light and want your bike too last the winters the pointy is better if your a fat b*****d and want a new one every summer. welcome to the org. and speedplay you forgot to mention ducati's are invading too! |

In terms of looks, it's so subjective - I wouldn't listen to anyone's opinion, only you know which look you prefer.
There are arguments to be made regarding the FI. I personally prefer the 'feel' of the throttle with carburettors (goes for cars, too) and I don't mind cold starts - it isn't much hassle, just use the choke in the manner for which it was designed. I can see why some prefer the instant starting every day of the year and the snappier throttle response of the FI though. Happy SVing! |

Good morning & welcome.
Get a faired yellow curvy, & be a 'HE MAN' like Alpinestarhero, & Thedonal. (I have to say that as they're two of my best customers):D. Whatever you get, just make sure it isn't an un-faired blue Pointy, then you'll be a girlie like Matt Rehm (let's see if he reads that):D. Seriously, there are pros & cons to both. Good Curvys seem smoother at lower revs, & are generally nicer to ride around town, but can suffer from carb icing in colder weather, & being older there's more chance of corrosion & associated problems etc. Pointys seem a little harsh on occasion, & should you get a problem with the injection system, it'll undoubtedly cost more to fix than good old carbs. In real terms, both models are excellent value, & good fun if you get a nice one. Cheers. |

Running shell V-power in the winter makes cold starting easier (engine idles at a much more consistent speed and dosn't stall while still cold, as may be the case with "normal" fuel). Curvy SV's seem to be better built than pointy SV's from what I've seen; certainly the later models are not so great with build quality. Pointy-wise, the K5 SV seems to be the best model. Curvys should only be yellow and the correct shade of yellow is the 1999 one :cool: Some say the fuel injection of pointies can be "snatchy"; I;ve never found my carb'd SV to be snatchy (my only experiance of fuel injection is a bandit, which was just awefull) Find the best model you can. If you find a curvy that has been well looked after for 1500 and its done 10,000 more miles than a newer pointy that looks crap and the owner wants 2000 for it...get the curvy :) |

No reason why either SV I opt for needs to stay 100% stock, depending on what I feel needs doing once I've got my hands on one.
Besides, from what I've seen G and Blue_SV650S seemed quite spritely on them ;) |
