Anyone ever hit a bird?
 

Nearly hit a great big pigeon today! Was doing about 50 or 60 leaving a roundabout to join a dual carriageway, when this bird swooped past from right to left.
I resisted the urge to alter my line and just ducked a little -- missed the sod by a whisker!! It got me thinking - anyone ever hit a big bird?

Thankfully...No. But I did see an episode of traffic cops or something where a guy on a blade was hit square in the face with a pheasant! Smashed his visor and knocked him out. Bike looked like a total write off!

Yes, doing around 50 -60 MPH. Hit me square on the forehead, and trashed my crash helmet. Had a headache for the next 24 hrs

Never on 2 wheels. Minced the crap out of one on the motorway in my car one time, left a trail of feathers.

I bet there will be quite a few on here that have been hit by a bird on a bike. Good job you missed it mate. Hitting a bird at 60mph with a helmet aint gonna be a pretty sight.

Nearly hit a peacock the other day! God only knows why it was in the middle of a main road, it was just over the brow of a hill and would have seriously taken me by surprise with very little reaction time (i was riding 'briskly'), but thankfully a bike coming the other way had the good sense to flash and warn me so i was backing of the throttle by the time i was right up close. It was beautiful but would have made a right old mess of my bike!

I saw a fairing explode on a TDM in front of me when a pheasant hit it. ripped off the headlight and clocks. a good grands worth of damage.


A woody hitting my helmet was enough to make me think my head had been smacked off.

Still could be worse. Dizzy managed to get a deer a few years back

Yeah, on me 125 on the way to work one morning, a fat ar5ed wood pidgeon jumped outa the bush at me, it clipped me mirror, hit the screen on me bike and then bounced into my chest, i was doin around 50, god only knows how i stayed on. I dont have any pics but it was a Honda CBF125 and it broke the mirror clean off, and cracked the screen, only the L plate held it together and it bled all over me nice new jacket!

Last week i had a big f*ck off bird of some description fly under my frame while doing 60mph, scared the crap out of me.
It come at me from 90 degrees to the bike and i thought it was gonna hit my front wheel, but then flew out the other side somehow.
Hope thats my final encounter with the birds of the flapping variety.

Yep been hit in the chest by one doing national speedlimit speeds, luckily it was only a small one and bounced off without too much impact.

I carved Bambi in half at 60mph AND survived!!

I know SpeedyClaire hit a pheasant in face I believe, she wasn't so lucky :-(

Got a glancing blow by a bird on motorway , don't know what it was but it hurt & visor was covered in its blood :(

Twice so far - first one was similar to above, blackbird in a glancing blow but I was only doing about 40 - it bounced off my lid and emptied its guts all down my front, nice.

The other one, just a wee sparrow, swooped down in front of me and bounced off my foot.

It's the umpteem near misses with pheasants that bother me - I've had at least half a dozen of the dozy things shooting out at my head from the verge now already.

its always bloody pigeons! they launch off from hedge height then swoop into the road to get enough lift, had to dodge a few already this year. got my own back and "punched" one last year though, stupid thing did the whole swooping thing as I was giving it some beans up a sweeping uphill right hander, saw it and hoped I would miss it but didn't let up on the throttle as I was cornering....

it missed most of my bike but my hand on the handlebar caught it a good blow. was surprised how weighty it was, always think of them moving pretty swiftly and being light, this was a right lardass. Full contact sent it spiralling into the verge, checked the mirrors and it still looked to be moving and getting up so I think it survived, bloody lethal things they are.

Pheasants with a death wish are the next thing thats going to annoy me on my rural roads, hey ho. I've been lucky so far, hope it continues.

oh and there was the time in the dark, cresting a small rise in the road after a dip on my old CBR125, something smacked into my helmet pretty hard, was so dark I can only surmise I headbutted a dozy bat!

Not a bird exactly but a bumblebee hit me in between the eyes once (visor up) and almost had me off the bike. :laughat:

lol my mate had a bee in his helmet, he had my ex on the back of bike at the time, He wasn't impressed at the speed he went up the slip road off the M62 with his helmet waggling up and down on his head!

Ive had a bumble bee too, hit me visor at 60 down the A50 and just went bang, it felt like id been hit in the head with a brick and I couldnt see a damn thing with teh amount of mess it made, i was cleaning it off for hours.

oh yeah i had a bumble bee in my neck at about 40mph on a scootay when i was 16, it managed to sting me and my neck swelled up like a beast. Tried to flick it off but had to put my gloves back on to pull it off my skin :(

I had a wasp sting me on my little finger when I was coming home from the GM last year with MrUki. Little git.

I'm a woos, I couldn't pull the brake lever, it really bleddy hurt :-(

Good job I can do it with one finger then innit :-)

I hit a deer once.... Luckily, in my van. Came out of nowhere, i was doing about 60mph. If i had been on the bike, it prob would have finished me off!

No. But I once ran over a sheep in my Passat. It ran out from behind a bush on a mountain road, and copped it under the left front wheel arch at about 50mph. Most of it was embedded in the intercooler and the inside of the wheel arch was coated in guts and sheep****. When I hit it I just heard the thud and then looked in the rear view mirror and saw a red mist...

I've hit a pheasant a glancing blow on the shoulder, it was hard enough that it knocked my hand off the bar, that was about 80 or 90mph. Half asleep coming back up through Wales from MYCs uni... didn't half wake me up!
That was messy even though I stayed on, just.

Best one I saw was a lad with GSXR600K2, air intake ate a blackbird flat out. It had pulverised it and it was just feathery goo in the airbox!

A seagull swooped won when iw as in the car in mc donalds car park and bounced off the bit above my windscreen and i cat darted out into the road when i was on my bike a month or so ago the cat didnt live i dont think but the gull did, Never hit a bird on the bike come close though i managed to duck under them no idea how its just a reaction now i even did it when i was in the car

Hrm, sort of yes for this one.

I was riding along fairly slowly and a group of house martins swooped over me. However, one little dare-devil decided he'd show off to his mates and fly in between my wheels. I'll give him credit, he made it behind the first wheel, but found himself run over mid flight. Poor thing. All I felt was a small bump, looked back and saw a small red mound.
