Dog on a Curvy SV

Hello

Any ideas on how to carry a dog on the bike? (blank line for jokes follow's)

I’ve got a mid sized Labrador, that loves the beech, and the bike so would love to be able to load him up and weave through all the holiday traffic, when the mood takes.

Someway of mounting a dog carrier to where the grab rail fit’s perhaps.
Thanks
Mike

You can't take a dog on a bike!!!!!!!!!

But if you actually wanted to, no chance a labrador is going to work! A dog that fits into a rucksack or top box - but then its still wrong!

Do you mean it’s illegal, or just in poor taste/dangerous?

I don't no wether its illegal, just way to dangerous. more I say for you, don't care about the dog. But a big labrodor who decides he wants off at 70mph?????

Depends on the dog and you. I reckon it be right so long as you don't drop it at 1mph when he decides to shuffle around.

Then again looking at that carrier thing I wouldn't risk it, imagine even in a little lowside you risk taking the poor mutts head off.

you might need a mountaineering back pack for a lab though?

I just typed "carrying a dog on a motorcycle" into Google and that was the first thing that came up.

Not sure I would want to carry a dog! If I did it would be in a sidecar..proper Wallace and Gromit style! :D

A HD turned up at the Ace once when I was there with a Staffie-type dog in a cage attached to the back. Both rider and dog were wearing regulation "bad-a** uniform" which was bad enouugh but the poor mutt looked rather shaken. Even a dog that size can move about and upset the handling so why on earth would you want to risk it with something the size of a lab?? Plus if you have a slightly nosey/irritating neighbour you're bound to get a visit from the RSPCA. Get a sidecar or trailer if you must take the dog with you.

Ophic, the thought of you taking Kaiser is outright hilarious.

On a serious note...I don't think I'd ever recommend it. I personally wouldn't want to put a dog in such a risky position because they will be way more likely to get hurt than a pillion rider as they are fastened to the bike. If you lose control and the bike flips or slides down the road and hits a curb that sends it up in the air, the dog will be going with it and it will either be bye bye dog or lots of time in the vets which is just not a risk I would ever want to take. I do think it's cute to see a little Jack russell or something in a carrier on the back of a cruiser in somewhere like America where the roads are much bigger, there's far less traffic and a MUCH lower motorcycle accident rate. Also, even the smallest of labs, just moving a little bit could see you, the dog and the bike on the floor.

I don't know if I'd call the RSPCA about it if I saw it, but I certainly wouldn't feel that comfortable with it.

Just my opinion though and all based on the safety of you and your dog.

Blimey! I've seen dogs sat on rear seat, in back packs , in footwells on scooters but I've only ever seen something lab sized in a sidecar =p.

That said if you can teach him to ride the thing you can sit back and get some rest in :)

ok, took heed of the advice and comments, and just broke the bad news to the dog. He's resigned to be in the car, stuck in traffic.

On the 'Puppy Farm' episode of Rogue Traders once they looked like they'd just cut a hole in the top of a givi top box for the dog's head and stuck it in there. It was a border terrier.

Erm.... some years ago I had an old BSA M21 and a lurcher. The local paper saw me one day.

I did thousands of miles on this bike with Rosie the lurcher (sadly passed on these last 10 years).

In 25 years of living up here I've only ever been into the Talbot once and I had a cup of tea in there!

You still in Welshpool then?
