Possible pot hole damage?

I rode over a pretty big pothole yesterday and took a fairly hard hit on the 750, afterward the fron end felt a bit wobbly/unstable?

any ideas?

its in for a once over in the garage next week with some new pads, so i think i might ask them to take a look.

cheers

Don't drive over potholes on a bike with 3mm suspension travel?

;)

Then my advice would be not to close up on the car you're about to overtake, especially if the road surface isn't very good...;)

As for the bike, I'd wager the bike is fine and the symptoms are in your head, same way the engine always makes odd noises after you service it yourself. If you really wanted you could take the wheel and get it tested but unless the rim is bent it's unlikely to have damaged the steering components

If the impact didn't have enough energy to fully deform the tyre and hit the rim I doubt it'd damage the rest of the forks/headstock:?

Sportsbikes always crash over rough ground, the SV clunked and my 675 sounded like you were hitting it with a hammer:o

Dunno what they sound like on the ADV as as far as I can tell I've not hit any yet:p;)

If you have to be that close on that bloody rocket-ship you can't see a small crater the overtake is probs a bit risky!

Nice road though. Go Blandford - Shaftesbury?

Only works if they were already aware of the pothole. Try proving that...

definetly did something to my front wheel, as before the bike used to hold the line in corners very well and now it wobbles, went for a ride last night and it is really noticable.

Bearing maybe? Get it on a stand and check everything from the wheel up to the steering head, or see a mechanic.

Bad news, you've only had it five minutes! If it hit hard enough to break it you're lucky you weren't turfed off as well. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Re: Possible pot hole damage?

Get the front up in the air and see if it has developed play in the head bearings.

Re: Possible pot hole damage?

push bike up to a wall (front tire) and push the bike and see if you can hear/feel the front move/click at the head bearing

Re: Possible pot hole damage?

That's what i was told to do by my suzuki dealer to see if there's play or damage to head bearing, if the bearings shot then most likely will have play in it, and apparently you can feel it through the top steam bolt, all im doing is relaying the info given to me after i had my off ......

i was also told the best way to do it is to jack the bike up so the front is off the floor with no pressure on it hold the front fork tubes and turn the wheel side to side feeling for ruff or jarring movements, or push and pull on the front fork seeing if there is any movement in the bearing, i didn't have the kit to do it so they recommended the above

or the other way was ride forward slowly and hard brake and see if you feel a click

I've done this on my CBR and it should tell you if the bearings are worn (=same as damaged? I dunno). Don't need to actually ride it forward though, you're just trying to make the suspension compress and rebound so it knocks the bearings about a bit. Just stand next to the bike, roll forward a few cms, and brake, let it flick back up after braking too, don't try and hold/damp it.

With the wheel off the floor, the steering kept trying to centre itself which I was told was also a sign (you should be able to turn it and it will stay). That wasn't immediately obvious to me why that would be a sign though.
