THE F***ING ROYAL MAIL IN YORK IS S***E!

The postman is crap. He constantly posts my bills & letters into the houses either side, and I regularly get their mail. Then there's the matter of packages which are too big or need signing for.

Let me preface this with a bit of info about the location of the sorting office where the packages are taken back to. The sorting office is about 2 miles from my house in the centre of York. There's a tiny carpark with 2 x disabled spaces and man in a hut with a barrier & his big red button to stop people from coming to collect their packages.

The nearest carpark is about a 5 minute walk away and it's the train station carpark so you have to pay to park there.

Although it's only 2 miles away, a round trip can take upto 40 mins 'cos the traffic is so bad in York.

So with this in mind, I have asked him in person and with notes left on the door - approximately 15 times - PLEASE DO NOT RETURN PACKAGES BACK TO THE SORTING OFFICE, LEAVE WITH ANY OF THE NEIGHBOURS IN MY CULDESAC, THEY'RE ALL OAP'S WHO ARE ALWAYS HOME.

But no, he takes them away every time. I even wrote a letter to the delivery operations manager so they had it in writing that he could leave packages in my designated 'safe place'..... "Sorry Mr. Pauly, we never received that letter, our postman is shiite as well"..

My bike is currently unrideable while I'm waiting for some service items coming through the post. I did leave another note on the door this morning saying "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY PACKAGES BACK TO THE SORTING OFFICE, PLEASE LEAVE THEM WITH 46A".. I doubt this will make a difference, but not only is the bank holiday going to mean that I don't get my items til tuesday, there's now also been a bomb scare at the sorting office as a package has leaked chemicals and 3 people have been taken ill... Hope they get well soon. I'll pop a card in the post.

Honestly, it is more convenient for me to get stuff delivered to my work address in west yorkshire and complete a 75 mile round trip than it is to try and rely on the York branch of the royal mail.

Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky, have another postal strike, only this time they'll do enough damage to get rid of the royal mail and spark up a bit of healthy reliable competition

Our previous postman just left the 'sorry you were out tickets' when he did his rounds despite me being very much in, it's quicker and easier for them to not bother loading up with the actual parcels and just run up drives flicking these through the letter box. Then we got a new postman, he thought ,as I wasn't in, it'd be a good idea to stroll into the elderly next door neighbours house and put my parcel in there....without telling her. She promptly binned it as she didn't know what it was - to make matters worse he did this a second time.

He also left £400s worth of kit at a neighbours house without telling me...neither did they until I went round to enquire out of desperation and noticed it indeniably in their house.

When he's not doing stupid **** like that he does the normal get it from the sorting office thing, problems with that is I'm at work when the sorting office is open and you have to wait 24 hours for collection for some reason in sheffield.

leeman road and another road has been closed to pedestrians & traffic apparently. Full on armed response/fire crew etc... sounds quite mega. I want my fecking bits!

you need to get the sender to put a note on it saying

'leave at no. 46a if out'

We have to do this when we send the board packs out to the directors. If they have the permission of the seller, they have denaibilty(SP?) or something like that!

it was lacking in patronising comments/dry witt.
I did like the comments about posting a get well card, and that they're own posty must be poor but I just expect better from you paulo.

My postie is a sound guy, but when i have had royal mail deliver packages thats when the problems start.
They have even left a 'sorry you wasnt in' card when i bloody well was, they just didnt try to knock the door with any conviction.
They never put a name on the card either, so dont know wether its for the wife or me.
She had a unrequested crappy catalogue from next arrive and they took that back to the depot, even though you could see what it was and maybe left it in my leccy box.

At least they didn't lose your house...

Couple of years ago the peterborough sorting office reorganised their rounds and somehow managed to lose my parents house.. hence anything sent to the address got returned unknown, This in turn caused no end of problems as you can imagine ( ie. cards stopped, bank acc frozen)

Took nearly 2 months to sort out just because one idiot couldn't count when he was labelling up

imagine you got the job, and they said they were sending the job to you in the post, but the royal mail feck it all up for you...

that's how I feel right about now, apart from it's motorbike bits and I can't ride it, and I'm meant to be in the isle of man on friday and I was gonna use the bank holiday monday to get the work done but I'm just gonna drink a bottle of vodka instead. How about that cuddle :(

Next time you order something paul go sit inside Martins front room and watch for him to come. When he comes, knocks then goes to drive away taking your parcel go out an "kick him in the eyebrow" while chanting leave it at 46A!!! that'll learn em!

well I got back from leamington spa about 2 hours ago, went to check with my neighbour to see if brembo m/c or 4 pot calipers have arrived = they've had nothing.

Meant to be doing carlsberg recce with leedsmatt and isle of man on friday for the weekend... royal mail might put a stop to that though :(

Our posties aren't bad, apart from the little episode when one was "sub-contracting" his load to bunches of foreign students who wandered around aimlessly with handfuls of letters looking at house numbers. Someone :-dd must have reported him I reckon.

I did send a letter to someone recently, it was slightly thicker than a normal letter and so possibly quite interesting to anyone handling it. It never arrived. I'd love to have been there when "someone" opened it only to find a piece of old inner tube (don't ask...). :laughat:

On a plus note, I do some work for a quite seriously disabled lady in Leamington, and her postie is a gem, he goes in every day to check on her and see if she needs anything. 10/10.

Can I just say that this thread has yielded some comedy gold. You should all be very proud of yourselves.

Well, it can't be as bad as the Scottish couple whose letters we get on a regular basis. I mean, it's an understandable error, the addresses are identical apart from the fact they are totally and utterly different. It boggles the mind.

But, in regards to the rant, all our parcels are left behind our back gate if we're not in. I say left, I mean lobbed over. Some of them reach quite amazing distances, we have muscular posties in Surrey. We wrote a couple of notes telling them to please not do that, but when Dad's brand new Shoei was thrown over the gate (bearing in mind the gate is about seven feet tall) we had some angry phone calls. Sorted 'em out good and proper. Even compensated him the cost of the helmet.

Good greif. Your lucky, Ive been fecked over by 7 Armoured brigade (I'm 4 armoured)... Helping them out with their exercise Druid Dance down here on Salisbury plain. Was only suspose to be here until the 27th April, but they extended it with out my units permission till the 6-7 May!

I feel for you Paul. We used to have to use York sorting office from Ripon (45 minute drive each way) and over an 18 month period they had a 100% fail rate on deliveries. Yes, 100%!

The worst one was when we were waiting for a delivery from the USA for several thousand pounds of product for a trade show. Despite phoning them a dozen times (No one ever pics the phone up, driving there three times and getting Parcelforce head office to do a forced tracking check that showed it repeatedly in the York office, they swore blind they didn't have it.

We did a trade show where we would have sold all of the product and found out when we got home this had the boxes (about the size of a small car) for THREE WEEKS! Cost us about 5 grand in sales.

This happened dozens of times. A formal complain and threat to sue didn't improve matters one bit. Theu still claimed to have tried to deliver whatever it was despite CCTV showing them never being there.
