Laurie's thought of the day.
Two planes have landed in England today. One is carrying a group of overpaid, underachieving, whining prima-donnas, the other is carrying seven coffins draped in the Union Flag.
Hero is a much over-used word these days, but I know exactly where my priorities lie. RIP to those guys who've died, and condolences to their families and friends. |
Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
:salut: Well said that man.

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Agreed.

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
We can't even really say it's even down to modern living...just the way the world works.
The analogy of Roman Soldier vs Gladiator springs to mind. |
Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Very well said. Makes u think what is important In life

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
I couldn't agree more Loz.

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Pause for thought indeed, well said.

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Well said.
When you put the two occurances together on the very same day, one is transient, ethereal and not worthy of mention in the shadow of the other. |
Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
There's been quite a discussion about this on my facebook page if anyone's interested (I used pretty much the same post as my status). It mainly centres around the use of the word 'hero' to describe anyone serving with the forces, and what a true hero really is.

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Its been a while coming Lozzo but this is a thread you and I 100% agree on.
Respect where its due and honor to the fallen :salut: |
Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Really? How can you not agree with everything I say, I'm the most logical and sane person on the .org - I just have a habit of speaking my mind and not bowing to lefty, tree-hugging, liberal, PC pressures and whims, and nor will I suffer a police state?
There's nothing wrong with having a mind that can still think freely, and a will to act freely too |
Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Hang on, just going to check that I'm ok to respond...
I'm back, they say I'm allowed to acknowledge your freedom of speech as long as I understand it doesn’t apply to me. ;) |
Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Ah, a paraphrasing of the oft misquoted Voltaire - “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
These were not actually his words, but rather those of Evelyn Beatrice Hall, written under the pseudonym S. G. Tallentyre in her 1906 biographical book The Friends of Voltaire. HTH |

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Look at it another way. A footballer that kicks a ball around the pitch for 90 minutes get £100,000 a week and a hero's lifestyle. Our men on the front line are putting their lives on the line everyday and get somewhere in the region of 0.5% of that wage. Some things in this world are seriously messed up!

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
Hmmmmm it looks to me like Loz is arguing with himself...does someone have me on ignore or something and that means I can't see theirs posts or am I missing something?

Re: Laurie's thought of the day.
This 'thought of the day' appears to have been had by a few thousand people all at the same time across the net, weird that. Look here
Anyway, I have the utmost respect for those that have lost their lives and their families. I don't see that there is any relevance in comparing them to a football team though. They are separate groups of people that just happen to have chosen a different direction in life. Not everyone would want or even suit a military career, I don't respect them any less for that. |
