Wanted, a physical competition to enter this winter, preferably in Northern England.
 

Random I know, but I like to go from target to target. This year was the Rotterdam marathon in April, and then the 24 hour Rad am Ring team cycle race (report still to come) last weekend.

So I need an event to enter, preferably Jan/Feb to aim for, unless I've got something to train for I tend to be super lazy, so I need some sort of target.

Things I've done in the past: triathlons, Tough Guy, Marathons, 20km races, an adventure race, duathlons, Rad am Ring. I'd quite like to do an event with a twist, so any suggestions?

Work wise I'm very unsure of where I'm going to be after November for the next 6-8 months, so I thought an event in Northern England/scottish Borders (North Yorkshire and further north) would be ideal to combine with a visit to the folks. However I'd consider anything in Europe if it was enticing enough.

So any suggestions?

Already have a summer coast to coast to coast plan forming in the back ground, although some form of running and/or cycling winter endurance event would be good prep.

Try coast to coast east to west. The stiffer terrain is at the end of the trek, and its into the prevailing weather.

Was gonna recommend Tough Guy but I see you've already done it. I'm thinking about entering for January 2011.

I've done Tough Guy twice, once the summer one, with a shorter run and twice round the obstacle course, and once the winter one, a longer run and only once round the obstacle course. I enjoyed both, although the stinging nettles oon the summer were a killer after the event! The main thing you need is fitness for these, the winners tend to be fell running type people!

You mean you can go round it as many times as you want?

I was under the impression it was an eight mile run followed by the obstacles then that was it...

No the format for the number of times round the obstacle course is fixed, in the summer it's a shorter run and twice round the obstacle course (or it was when I did it) and the winter is the longer run but only once round (no doubt due to the temperature, cold water and full body submergence). However there is always the opportunity to enter "Last Man Standing" if you're super fit, as many times round the obstacle course without stopping (there may be a time limit) but this is way beyond me!
