Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Being a proper noob, not just to the forum but to biking in general (cbt on July 19, full license aug 27!) I just wondered whether there was a regular group ride out at all? I really like the idea of something like a breakfast run once or twice a month on a Sunday but haven't seen anything on here like that.
Anyone do this already or interested in starting something like this before this "summer" skips straight to winter?! |

Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
I normally do frequent trips to the Carbeth Inn and back if your up for it. Although they are usually a last minute thing depending on weather etc. In fact am going a wee run up there tonight about 6.30 ish should be up there around 7.30 or there abouts. If your in the Glasgowish area PM your moby number and i txt you. Last Sunday me and a friend went a run Carbeth, Aberfoyle, Callander, Carbeth then home
Cheers |
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
The other option of course is to organise your own "breakfast run" Weegie.
If you put it out there people generally turn up. :) |
Well, I went on a nice little run this morning with a guy I passed my test with. East Kilbride - Strathaven - muirkirk - Cumnock - New Cumnock - Dalmellington (think that's what it's called!) - Ayr, then back down the M77 and home through Fenwick and Eaglesham. Excellent run!
I don't really know anyone else with a bike so can anyone recommend a nice route that puts me back on the M8 or M77? |
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Lol, gotta watch yourself in areas like Dalmellington! Rough as! Geed auld Ayrshire!
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
I'd be up for a west coast ride. In Ayr and used to heading out the route you described. Post something up next time you fancy it ..

Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Aye, if we had a meetin point in Ayr, even I might be able to make it!
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
What about Kilmarnock? Is that about half way?
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
LOL! Doubt I would go if the actual meeting point was Kilmarnock, that's about 80 mile away from me!

Yep, near to Stranraer
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
That makes much more sense then. It's only 35 miles from here to Ayr on the M77/A77. Definitely feasible. We'll work on it! :D
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
If meeting up in Ayr, would probably up for it as well
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Hmmm, is this thread the basis of another run into D&G?:)
Mmmm, the Girvan to Newton Stewart road!:cool::cool: |

Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
I was speaking to a biking buddy of mine and he was telling me there is a cracking road from outside Thornhill up to the M74? A real twisty bit!
I don't know that bit of the D&G. Does anybody know which road it is as I didn't really understand his instruction! Now combine those three bits of blackstuff?????? |

Looks like we have ourselves some routes then. Now we need to work on a date!
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Dalveen Pass:smt109 Thats what he called it:D Cheers MBK
What about a week on Sunday ? 19th of September ? for Ayr - Newton Stewart - Dalry - Thornhill - Dalveen Pass |
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
I shall be in Lacock, Wiltshire visiting our very own Gruntygiggles and _stretchie_
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Sunday after??? 26th ????
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Guys, don't base it around me, I don't get many weekends off! I am backshift that night so start at 4pm so wouldn't be feasible for me to join you.
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Sounds like a great run. Need a new back tyre before that though (too many runs up the M77 !!!!).
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
It would be good if we could get a few of the orgers there and there's no massive rush so we should sort it for when MBK isn't working.
September is pretty busy for me so beginning of OCtober would be good. Obviously we're fighting the weather a bit but I seem to recall we often get a wee bit of nice weather around then. October 3rd anyone? |

I might be up for this if its early October. We could get something sorted to get from Glasgow to Ayr in a decent fashion too. |
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
September's out for me but October would be a possibility.
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Hmmm - sounds good to me!
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Sunday 10th October for West Coast Ayr Run (WC-AR)????????
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
10/10/10 sounds perfect!
If folk are going from Glasgow then there's a really nice run from EK down to Ayr through Cumnock if anyone fancied meeting in EK first? |
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Isn't that the same weekend as the Aviemore run? If not, I'll certainly try and tag along, seeing as it's on my doorstep!
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
It is the same weekend actually. Reckon that'll cause problems then?
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
There's racing at East Fortune that weekend too. If it's going to be a regular run then those that are going to Aviemore could catch the next one. You'll never find a date that suits everyone.
I was going to stick my name down for Aviemore but I might do East Fortune on the Saturday and this run on the Sunday if it goes ahead. |
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Right, 10/10/10 it is. Those that can make it, great. Those that can't, well, maybe next time!

Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
I'll start a thread then and we can give proper details as this one is called Regular Rideout and the WCAR may well not be!!
|
Re: Regular Rideout - West Coast?
Probably the best way forward then :D
So its 10/10/10 then! Please sign up there. Any ideas on where to meet in Ayr area? Someone from up there got an easy to find place? Not in the town, pain in the rrrr's to drive thru:smt013 |
