But what did he do wrong?

He may have had different ideas on how to run the country/world than some but he never lost an election. So I guess a lot of people believed in his ideals.

Suffice to say, none of them were peers.

Bill, that is the problem with the structure of Britain's parliament.

The upper house or lords is only allowed to be a sanity check on legislation, they can review, suggest changes, but at the end of the day they cannot refuse to sign off anything that comes from the commons. They can prevaricate and make life uncomfortable, but they have no real power.

As a position in the lords is by appointment, if the lords was to get too uppity, there is nothing to stop an executive (as in cabinet and cronies) from appointing a few hundred of their friends and drowning out the trouble makers who may think they have a right to say a government is wrong.

Blair has gone loopy just like Thatcher did, both after spending far too much time as PM.There should be a five year limit on the job to prevent the kind of hubris that so obviously goes with the job whoever is doing it.

Anyone else spot the irony in this statement?

Don't get me wrong, I think all he's doing is trying to "buy" his way to a clear conscience, but BB's post did make me chuckle.

To be honest, i couldnt give a flying doobrey about his book. All i know is that i can not afford to buy a house and have no hope to because of his term of government.

Agree on this one. Couldn't care less about his book. To be fair, him writing it is giving circa £5m to the RBL.....so that is a good thing. I just won't be reading the book.

But his legacy is something different altogether. Him and Brown made bad decisions that gave rise to a nation of borrowers and financiers willing to do anything to make a buck. The main reason?? More money flowing into London and making it the Global hub for Finance and their belief that even if things were bad, if London was still the leading Finance city it would all be ok!!!!

I actually am quite pleased with the the new Govt. Yes they are cutting things left right and centre, but rightly so, we need a good 5-10 or so years of hard times to get this country back on track.

It all started with Mr Blair and its about time he just vanished and started working pushing trolleys in a supermarket so that no-one ever needs to listen to his claptrap again.

Went to war after the country voted no? Putting us back in debt
Huge increase in fuel costs under him.

Who voted for him?

Well the people getting free handouts, £500k 5 bedroom houses with no jobs, those getting paid to sit at home playing xbox? ;)

hahaha! I wish i had been there Ed. I'd have grabbed him and made a citizens arrest for war crimes since there is a warrant out for him and handed him to one of the undercover cops that still protect him.
I;d love to have seen their faces when i said "ive arrested this man under my powers as a citizen and need for you to arrest him formally too and take him to the station please"

Smug lying git that he is. I nearly threw my telly out the window watching the andrew marr interview. Did anyone else notice just how much it was edited? Obviously bLiar's aides made sure he didnt do what he did on the sofa with fern britton and drop himself in it again this time.
And ive lost a lot of respect for andrew marr now too. OK i know all his questions were written for him beforehand by bLiar's aides but he could have maintained his credibility by simply refusing to give the tosspot a platform in the first place.
 grrrrrrrr

Can you tell i dont like the bloke much?
