lemon or lucky
we shall shortly find out when I pick up the car I won at auction last night.
In an "that would only happen to you" type twist of fate I decided to bid (just the once) on a car I thought I had no chance of winning but would at least get me over the nerves of placing a bid. I bid first... and no fecker else did! So I now own a MASSSSSSSSSSSSIVE honda accord estate its pre-historic and high miles but then again it also has 10months tax and test, only one previous owner and a full honda service history, looks immaculate and the cam/timing gubbins was only done 6000mile ago during its last service. Oh and it only cost me £210 Anyone got experiance with these models? I've never even driven an Automatic before so this could be an interesting afternoon especially when my previous cars have all been 3door hatchbacks. Its the 1995 Honda Accord Aerodeck 2.0 LS Auto |
Re: lemon or lucky
have fun mate, petrol or deisel(sp)?
|
Re: lemon or lucky
Think Honda didn't do diesel in 1995 but I can be wrong. Anyway the 2.0 sounds like petrol.
|
Re: lemon or lucky
aye, petrol it is.
bloody hell 1995 thats a point I dont even know if it will have ABS or power steering. This afternoon promises to be interesting if nothing else. |
Re: lemon or lucky
Automatic is so easy - whack it in Drive, and just tuck your left foot away.
|
Re: lemon or lucky
just dont forget its automatic and slam the brakes on when you think you want to change gear haha
|
Re: lemon or lucky
haha, what a story, althought for £210 you can't really be bad to that, even if it is a heap of crap, you could probably sell it on as **** for more than £210 haha.
and as said, your left foot had better get used to being useless, unless you like the left foot braking, which i don't :) have fun and let us know what she's like |
Re: lemon or lucky
Just speaking to a friend who has an automatic and whilst he struggled with hysterics I heard him say "you should be allowed out in public unsupervised" Thought I should share that as it tickled me.
Dill - my thoughts exsactly, for £210 even if it only lasts until its next MOT I should be able to shop the parts or even the whole thing for a similar cost on evilbay especailly as there is one on there with similar miles age etc thats been wrapped round a lamppost over a week left on the auction and its already nearly £100 |
Re: lemon or lucky
Mate, if the engine starts ok from cold, sounds alright on tickover and sounds alright when you rev then you're quids in, just do a bit of pre-emptive surgery and change the sparkies, filters and oil and enjoy (hopefully) trouble free Honda ownership.
I bet it's a cracking ride, nice and smooth. Great cars, I had a 99 one so the shape after yours and it was a great car, all my mates called me grandad but I don't care. It was good for overtaking, ask El Saxo. |
Re: lemon or lucky
Mate's been driving Honda Accords since the mid 90's. Admittedly he's on his 5th(?) Accord but he swears by them. He racks up about 40k per year and changes his car every 2-3 years.
Sounds like a bargain. |

If you are lucky, there was an optional 'Stuck in traffic' mode where you press a button and 2 lovley ladies appear from somewhere within the car and gently massage your head whilst peeling and feeding you grapes |
I suspect your exaggerating but going to accept it as gospel. It's not far off how happy I am with it though! I've got it home now, the auto wasn't worth the worry that I had it's simple living you've just got to forget you've got a left leg.
On inspection it's already paid for it's self. Things which look like they've just been fitted include; new tyres, exhaust Inc cat section, battery, plugs, air filter (I assume oil filter too but havnt yet checked), belts, it's fully Valletta, even has new car mats. Body is rust free and the interior is mint with the exception of no radio and a vent cover hanging off it even has cruise control! Oh an a bonus it came with a full tank, almost brimming unless the fuel guage is broken. Gonna go try fill it up an see if it takes anymore. Lucky lucky lucky me thinks. |

Re: lemon or lucky
Bugger, give you £100 for it ; )
I like cheap older cars, apart from engine worries you just don't get worried about them. Got an R reg Civic, banging car only a 1.5, only thing I can think off the top of my head to go wrong (kiss of death) was the battery died not long after I got it so replaced it, the recent MOT failed on a steering gator split (replaced it), handbrake was not efficient enough (adjusted it by getting the R's end on axle stands and removing the rear ash tray to get to the adjuster) and more recently the directional change for the fans stopped working and the fan doesn't work on speeds 1 and 2, so I took the glove box out got my hand behind where the switches are and put a wire back on a sticky up thing, fan direction sorted and send the resistor off to be resoldered. And that's all since May 26 2006. Sorted And got an S reg Land Rover Discovery, just came through an 11 mile single track road on Sunday and there was another car so just drove in to the bush to create enouhg room, I wouldn't have done that if I had a nice Rangie |
Re: lemon or lucky
my "best car" was a fiesta 1.8 non turbo diesel, M reg
I bought it for £200 of my brother with a Decked in door, Fitted a new door, new oil and filter every 5k. Bought it with 124k miles stolen at 166k miles in a 2 years. went everywhere, did everything on £5 worth of diesel, its the only car to date I have had three points in too! |
Re: lemon or lucky
You got points in a NON turbo diesel fiasco. Crikey, the wind must have been strong on that day
