minitwin suspension advice
Moving from f400 to minitwins sv650 next year and could do with a bit of advice on suspension etc.
Ist up is the rear shock. What works best on a 2006 SV650 ? Ive heard of some guys using zx6 zx10 gsxr rear shocks do they work? Or if i go for an after market shock which is the most cost efective option. Secondly front forks. What is the best Fork upgrade options. Again ive heard of changing the springs and something like welding the cartridges up and re drilling them is a cost efective option. Is this true. Hitting false neutrals. I heard of a modification that can be done to prevent hitting false neutrals, what is this. Any advice on the above or other worthy advice will spot on. |

Nitron shocks are very good value for money from £450 upwards. Fork wise - Racetec emmulators, springs, oil and air gap to suit you. Dont weld anything!. False neutrals - shouldnt happen on K5 onwards but if it does then look at rearsets as poor quality ones can stick making it hard to shift gear. TBH if your racing dont cut corners on suspension. The SV650 handles like a dream when well setup and is the main modification that you can do that will turn the bike into a bike capable of winning races. If you need anymore info drop me a PM |

Let us know how you get on - forget the rest by the way, it aint between you and them, its between you and the track? But watch out for blokes that dont like being passed by a biker bird - its gonna happen!:smt104

Well, i started on the R1, why? i have been doing lots of track days on my road bike, which was a 2008 Hayabusa, i had a reputation for being fast on that, and loved it i did Ron Haslams race academy and asked on both occasions "tell me if i have the potential to race" and both said yes most definately. not being able to race a Hayabusa, i chose a smaller bike hence my R1, did a few track days and then at Mallory Park racing down the straight, with new brakes, pads and fluid left my braking later and later, till unexpectedly the rear wheel came up i panicked and ended up in the kittie litter, and the next i remember is being in the medical centre. My R1 was fine and was back out by lunchtime, however this really did knock my confidence but stayed with my choice of racing my R1. My First meeting was testing at Pembrey, and soon realised that this is not a track day, they are fast and serious, i could keep up with them in the straights but they had levels of confidence and skill i didnt have yet. i was getting twitchy, and nervous being out there with them but loved racing, loved the atmosphere, the paddock life, and really loved the racing, i say thay twice so all is sure. I needed to changed class and so went for a Minitwin, after lots of self doubt, about am i giving up to early ect ect. The Minitwin is great but a completely different style of riding, corner speed on an R1 can be compensated by the power it has to come out of corners and the brakes it has for going into them, the minitwin doesnt, on the other hand i can pin it on a minitwin coming out of a corner, but on an R1, well thats why i ended up back in the kittie litter again, but ok this time. i feel a lot more secure on a Minitwin, the R1 was not the best choice to start racing on, but it got me into the paddock and some experience of the racing which i can build on for next year. bit wordy but the minitwin is right for me and a lot more fun, i have even sold my fireblade and bought and SV Sport for the Road JoJo Quote:
Well, testing on Friday was great, out for the first time on this new minitwin and i have to say a well balanced easy to ride bike and spent the first couple of sessions just getting a feel of what it can do for me. each session i was getting a little bit quicker, and when it cam to practice the next morning i felt comfortable enough to try some new things, and lean of a little bit more, brake later, pin it sooner. the problem i have is racing an R1 the braking points and pin it places are vastly different and this is what i was mainly doing all the time getting bolder and bolder, and learning where these limits are and the times to brake and pin it. Practice the next day was great and actually passed a few people, and managed to latch onto a few that passed me but they always beat me on corner speed which i was still learning. yes your right they dont like being passed, red mist was apparent a couple of times Qualifying was good for me only had a few of the SoT lap me cant remember another minitwin going by. When it came to the race, weather beat me i am afraid heavy rain and strong winds, and as i didnt want to throw my new bike down the road, cause i knew i was taking more and more chances out there, i called it a day. not a great end to the two days out but overall a great couple of days on my new minitwin, i am now ready to race a whole season and compete got a day out with New Era on the 6th Nov at Donnington so looking forward to that, gonna try and get in some more track days, but next season i am going to give up last place to someone else Bring it on, i am so gonna miss it over the winter JoJo :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: :rolleyes: |
