quandry about rebuild.
right people i have most of the bits to make my bike road worthy , but now its desision time
for those that dont know i have the aniversary edition sv1000 so my options are: put it back to standard, there were only 310 made so keep it origanal basicly orginal with just the usuals upgraded use this opertunity too upgrade everything, change colour, etc etc the cruncher is, i dont know if i will keep her or sell her on, im getting a second bike anyway so its not an issue about what to use her for, its just i dont know if i still have the same affinity for her, or would it be worth keeping her because shes a rare orginal beast or fully personalised either way she's getting a full going over and made as perfect as possible, she deserves that much, and i mean showroom condition and NO i dont know if im going to sell or keep her, i cant base my rebuild disison on it as i change my mind 6 times a day, so i need other reason for doing one or the other of the above so mighty org, your thoughts ,feeling and suggestions are welcomed |

Keep it stock imo Dave, in future times, limited runs will be desirable and go up in value.

Keep it standard colours, if you fit any upgrades, then keep the OEM parts if you need to take it back to stock.
Folk aren't going to be bothered if you change the rear shock for something better, or fit crash bungs, which in your case might be a wise investment. ;) If I was buying a 2nd hand bike I'd like to see a hugger, braided lines & crash bungs fitted. But I don't like anything other than stock colours normally |

Back to standard, with a limited run bike like that, I'd be leaving it as standard as possible, and I have...
If you are getting a 2nd bike anyway, turn that into what you want and dont wallop the potential resale value of what you have at the moment. |

Standard all the way - I'd go with basic mods, but they would have to be reversible as special editions are even more likely to be worth more kept standard.

Standard as you will probably want to sell it after crashing on it.
I was never happy with mine after binning it as it always had little marks that I could see even if others couldn't without it being pointed out. |

Non-standard ruins any bikes value, no mystery there. It's just a closeout version of a mass produced bike, in a few years it's value will be totally condition dependent just like every other bike. So maybe just make exactly how you'd like it, lifes too short 'n all that.

sounds like you're suffering the same thing I had with it. Stonking engine, ok handling but it soon leaves you feeling indifferent. I'm guessing an off will have made you fall out with it a little bit (I fell out with my 650 for 2 months when I had my silly lowside).
If you're thinking of selling in the near or distant future, try to be as frugal as possible on the parts. You could go mental buying brand new everything, only to find that the resale price represents a fraction of all the parts you bought. If you're planning on keeping it to ride or to look at then like phil says it will probably be worth a little bit more in future as there weren't many of them in the first place. Or you could sell it and buy an adventure bike? :razz: |

to be honest dave returning it back to 100% standard is the way to go if you want to sell it. However its going to cost a small fortune to get that paint scheme anything like it should be when new. Anyone that sees it repainted in anything but is going to think its been crashed and wouldnt touch it unless it was really cheap! so your not going to get your money back for it either way i would have thourght.
Now you were thinking of getting shut last time i spoke to you (before the misshap) so i guess youve fallen more out of love with it. As your not going to get the ££ for it on resale unless you spend £££ i would say take it to a ditch near you and phone the insurance company up.... seems like the best way to get the most cash out of it? |

Back to standard and sell it,and buy what you want without pressure on the finances.After all you can only ride one bike at a time and it isn't like it is your only mode of transport,its a pleasure toy. You would have to keep it a long time for it to appreciate in value, mean while it is losing money and not being used.
Only my opinion but I would rather have a bike I really want and spend the extra money on that keeping it in mint condition,but using it and getting pleasure from it. |

Ok, back to standard, limited and all. Its like my VRap, rare as hens teeth, pretty much all of them modded to personal preference, then one will come along thats completely standard and is worth a lot more, XtraVRap even more so, being 1000 world wide and dropping. As DT says, a pleasure toy, so why not spend a bit of brass getting it how it should be. |

Patch it up with loads of scuffed panels and do lots of trackdays. Sell the SZ panels to pay for the track days. The only thing Special about SZ's is the paint scheme. All black framed thou's ( K5+ ) got the engine / ecu / throttlebody mods. Even dealers are selling mint SZ's for under £3K now. You will not recoup the cost of minting it up. Ratty |
