Which helmet colour?
I am looking to buy a Shoei Qwest as it seems to tick all the boxes, and my XR1000 is over 4 years old now.
I have been looking and the range is limited, and I have previously always gone for patterned finish. However looking at the range I quite like the look of the plain one's especially the matte black, and the white. Anyone seem any of them in the flesh as my local store is off limits because of the snow. Also do plain helmets look pants? |
Re: Helmet Colour
IMO fella dont buy a matt black (anything).
It gets dirty quick, and cleaning usually makes more marks on the surface. I had a viper helmet in matt black rode through some green flies and they made a pretty mess as they send to do. Anyway when wiping them off they pretty much killed the finish of the lid. Therefore IMHO avoid. |
Re: Helmet Colour
ummm interesting. I didn't even think of that. Maybe gloss black then???

Sorry I's bored with the weather :p

Re: Helmet Colour
White. Statistically most noticeable lid colour, with fewest crashes
|
Re: Helmet Colour
Get a white one with black and white bits on it.
You'd be amazed how fast people move over for you! Pete ;) |

Yes Pete, but that might be more to do with your blue lights ;) |

Never considered a white helmet before, but I guess as I am getting older, there are a few things other than "looks" to consider. |
Re: Helmet Colour
White helmet and high viz jacket???????? where can I get my bike sprayed white cheap, also 3M reflective decals and fixed blue[non-flashing]side lights-----do you think that would work?????:D

Re: Helmet Colour
I have a matt white helmet, ok it has a china blue pattern, but non the less its matt white. Everything and anything makes it filthy and grubby looking, it needs to be scrubbed regularly to get black marks off it(which I have no idea where they come from, as they look like its been rolled on black rubber)
Gloss white helmets are ok, the ex had a Craft pure white one, and it always looked like someone had snotted over it, as it really shows up dead flies in summer, as did the identical one in black. On the whole a white helmet can be noticed more, I can see Pegs Shoei bobbing around in dense traffic on a dark night. I can't with his black one. |

Sorreeeee couldn't resist[/QUOTE] i was just about to do the same. back on subject, i personally wouldnt consider a black helmet as its just not visable, i like to stand out so the muppets in cages see me. i have been looking at a white one with graphics on it. i say best to be seen |
Re: Helmet Colour
This is my personal hat;
http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...6o6YvQAogKFBth Looks good, and is good value for money as the XR1100 has replaced it. Other hat; http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../Ponderosa.jpg Pete ;) |
Re: Helmet Colour
I always have a plain white lid, not only are they more noticable, but I generally think most of the patterned ones are vile - replica race ones more so.
Another benefit is that a plain lid is usually rather cheaper, for example an Arai Chaser in plain colours is typically between £50 and £70 less than the patterned ones. I wouldn't buy a satin or matt finish lid, they look great when new but pick up every mark and the finish is nowhere near as durable. |
Re: Which helmet colour?
I have a mutli coloured helmet, it's a fairly plain design, just stripes of different colours. I would always want to have a bright helmet, be it white or multicoloured as I think it helps with visibility factors. Would never have a plain black...or at least I say that now!

Re: Which helmet colour?
if your looking at the quest have to say im fairly partial to the
http://www.shoei-europe.com/upload/m...loodflow_m.jpg though atm i use this xr1100. theyre pricy but.. its not something you want made cheaply, these are especially good for summer since the vents are amazingly effective http://www.shoei-europe.com/upload/m...coquista_m.jpg nice to know about the matt black though, i was sorely tempted by them but if they mark as easily as you say then perhaps its not ideal. |

Re: Which helmet colour?
Geodude,
The issued hat is a Shoei Multitech. I'm happy with it 'cos my head fits it. Others hate it 'cos their heads are Arai or AGV shape etc. But noisy though. Pete ;) |
Re: Which helmet colour?
ive got a matt black lid. i like it. true it gets marked but i would have thought any lid would at some point?

Surpised you think it's noisy, I've run various flip lids and it's the quietest one I've had to date. Perhaps you need to turn those sirens down? |
Re: Which helmet colour?
What's wrong with your XR1000 except you've had it four years?
Me and Petevtwin are still with XR800. Love the bacon butty comment as I've pointed this out up at Devils greesy van. |

Re: Which helmet colour?
I'm just a yorkshire skin flint! I wrote my last bike off and broke my spine in three places but my helmet was still ok just scratched the visor slightly.

Re: Which helmet colour?
Wouldn't something like this be more visible than white?

Re: Which helmet colour?
i've got blue mettalic caberg v2, it sorta matches my bike, but i would rather have had a white one.
i also have a white simpson bandit with black visor, but it's about 12 years old. |

No issues with the the colour, other than visibility - I've narrowed down my next lid to either the Qwest, XR1000 or Raid II (probably) - I have 4 visors and three pinlocks for the multitec that wouldn't exchange with the Qwest, so that's a factor in getting the next one. Pete, you may need to adjust the visor locking plates - I get differing levels of noise, depending on which visor I have fitted. The aftermarket one is much noisier, but there's stiff a noticeable difference between my clear and dark smoke. If I'm going out for a while, I usually adjust the plates depending on the visor I have fitted, just keep a 5 pence piece in your pocket. Still quicker than changing a visor on an Arai. ;) |

I adjusted the plates when I was issued the hat, but the noise is coming from the gap behind the plate where the chin-bar leaves a gap. We're grounded at the moment so may have a fiddle with my helmet on Monday. Brought to you by innuendos 4 U Pete ;) |
Re: Which helmet colour?
Mine is matte black- greasy marks do show on it, but i'm shure if you wash and buff your helmet properly, it'll look just fine.
And matte black looks mean as fark! |
Re: Which helmet colour?
i've never had a greasy mark on my helmet, just what is it that you lot eat?
