Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Nearly 300,000 trees need to be chopped down to make the Christmas Cards, that will be sent this xmas.
One tree makes about 3000 cards. Only 10% of these cards get recycled. Discuss... |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
You don't have an option for me
I do both. send handmade cards to those i won't see over christmas and for those i see every day ie work and stuff we make a donation to charity! and i recycle them all |

I don't send cards, I consider them a total waste of my beer funds
|
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Bah humbug!
Got better things to spend my money on. Asked friends and relatives not to bother years ago. Ste |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Waste of time and money if you ask me, especially people who have vast lists of people to send to who they haven't seen in years.
|
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I've ticked that I don't send them.... because I don't to the mass of people.
I do however buy them for mum and dad's, sisters and brothers, and nieces and grandma's. (because that's a whole lot of troublt for both of us if not!) |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I'll buy for my wife, son, mother and sister (father and grandparents are dead), because I want to. I know those cards will be kept and looked at again in years to come.
Most of my friends think a charitable donation makes much more sense, if there are those that don't they haven't voiced an opinion, but it's my choice at the end of the day and I'm not accountable to anybody else. If one or two don't like it, I'm not going loose any sleep. Aunts, Uncles, etc almost certainly don't like it, but my family can be very one sided and don't bother whether I like or don't like what they do, but if I do something they don't like it's a travesty, again I won't be loosing any sleep. I've given up caring what other people think. So long as I'm happy, my wife's happy and my son's happy, that's all that matters. |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
cut down all the tree's sure it will be my kids problem not mine :)
|
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I only send xmas cards to two people abroad, and the odd friend over here.
I find them a waste of time, and they gather far too much dust to be thrown in the recycling after a few weeks! I haven't even decided when I will be putting up the tree yet! |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Yep posted mine today and my tree is up and my little boy is having fun pulling the decs off :o bless him
|
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I'm not a fan of them but I send them to close family so that I don't get a bollocking.
I fund out the other day that the bloke across the road is a card salesman, worked for himself for 25 years doing it... clearly does very well out of bits of paper anyway lol |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I put £20 in the charity fund and told my associates I had done, rather than waste the money on 20+ cards. Not that I don't appreciate the sending of cards but there are people who are more needy and I personally consider it more beneficial
It is also a time saver as you don't have to sit a write them all out. |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Wife and I send to family and close friends but I don't bother with work colleagues. I buy a gift for a Barnado's child and tell everyone at work it's instead of sending Christmas cards!
|
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Your all bah humbug!!
I send them to friends and family as I always have done, and when I get Christmas cards they all get put in my scrap book as a keepsake. |

Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
No never send them and I should take this chance to ask you all not to send me any cards either.
Sorry to any of you that have already posted my cards |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I'm using ones left over from last year. And the list is much reduced. We have had an utterly sh!t year:( and we know who our true friends are. Roll on 2011:D
Please can you all note. I hate the term 'Xmas' - that's JoHo speak. The true name is 'Christmas', for when Christ was born. In these PC times it's unfashionable to speak of the birth of Christ, and it was a Pagan festival etc etc etc blah blah blah yes I know but I really don't care. |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I agree with Ed re Christmas (the celebration of Christ's birth) and go further in thinking we should have a separate festival of "Santamas" as a celebration of trivia, consumerism and debt.

Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Ahem, the 'X' signifies the cross that Jesus was crucified on.

And when they bend and won't stand upright, what do you consider the recipients will think of you? 'Why did he waste the stamp...' |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I ****ing hate cards, waste of time and money, id rather give the recipient a gift or money thats more useful.
Dont even send the wife one :( |

Personally I think about and take the time to phone the people that matter to me on xmas day, or in the days before or after and actually speak to them. That I think is a much better quality of communication than "Merry Christmas" in a card. |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
...and I would agree with you...
Perception is reality. |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Well respect to the number of people being honest and clicking the Ebenezer option, rather than clicking the charity option 'cos it's politically correct, then not actually making the charitable donation equivalent to what they would have spent in cards.

Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
If I get one I'll send one in return.
We get cards from the family in Germany, which are more like letters, so these I like to get. Except for one which always arrives from my wife's cousin. She usually writes 4 sides of A4 (in German!) on how great her life has been in the year just gone. Every year without fail. My wife doesn't bother to read it and throws it in the bin! Otherwise I send ecards to friends overseas |

Hah, there was a program on a while back about this, saying why are they telling me about little johnys year at school or where you went to for your hols, you get the picture nobody cares. Only saying ;) |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
Have ya noticed that most of the people who have replied negatively about christmas cards are male? Perhaps we need another poll, who sends, men or women?
I'm fairly traditional in some respects...well the only respect being christmas cards...I've sent mine out already. I have a few friends who always send me them and it's just one of those things you end up doing. In fact, I'll be honest and say I haven't actually ever thought about not doing it and doing something better with the money  I'm a real bah humbug person really but I do think for the amount of effort it takes to write them out once a year and for the good feeling they get when they're opened, it's worth it. I've sent more this year than I ever used to, mainly because most of my friends are far away, don't give out many local ones... |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I'm an opportunistic atheist, I'll eat, drink, be merry and accept presents.
No cards from me, although I'll get people I like presents, not from a religious POV, but because it's nice to do this once in a while, and Christmas, Xmas, Chrimbo or Pagan tree erecting festival or whatever you want to call it seems to be a regular reminder to do such an act. PS I believe presents existed before 0 AD in the modern calendar...... |

The small person gave out about half a dozen to her friends at school. I like receiving cards, it's nice to know that someone took the time to think of you, and send you a card. I always recycle the cards I receive, either by making new cards, gift tags or just putting them in the charity recycle box at the supermarket. So I reckon I've got about 50 years left from my tree... |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I never send cards for two reasons
1. It's a waste of money and I'm tight 2. I'm too lazy to actually buy, write and send them. |
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
I'll cards to those I won't see over Christmas and make a donation for the others.
|
Re: Poll: Will you send Xmas cards this year?
To be honest, now with most local authorites having blue bins or blue boxes or whatever for card etc, its now really easy to lazily recycle, so i think, in the past couple of years, and with more to come, more cards are now being recycled.
I made some cards this year with the aid of file dividers (for card) and pipe cleaners. Hilarious |
