Riding 125 on full license need to remove L plates?
 

Hi,

I'm picking up my wifes 125 tomorrow, i have a full license do I need to remove the L plates?

you dont legally need to, but you need to on a moral basis :)

My instructor just put two bits of black tape in a cross over the plates for the ride home after my mod 2.

Regardless of whether you must, I would if using an M-way. Just lowers the probability of a tug. No need to waste your time or the plod's for 2 mins to rip the plates off.

yea if your using the Mway, then just break them off, for sake of a few quid instead of an hour with the plod on motorway moaning about wasting time and whatnot.

No motorcycles UNDER 50cc on M-way, although some of the nifty 50s unrestricted would be less scary than an asthmatic old CG125..

You are meant to remove L-plates when the driver has a full licence and I certainly would if venturing onto the M-way

You can, but I wouldn't....

Went up the M1 playing wingman to a mate with his newly built trike that wasnt running well - top speed was about 65...

That was Ferking Scary - being overtaken by Artics is scary

Not sure what it is like in the provinces, but the lower limit is 50cc on the mainland.

Legally you are supposed to remove 'L' Plates from any vehicle if you are not a learner driver.

just checked and your right its over 50cc, feck me thats mental, ive seen signs reguarding 125's on some roads which is why i questioned it, like soulkiss dont think id do it, small bike ,no get out of trouble power, so light getting buffeted around, i know im mental but surely the a roads would be better amd you get to engage in your ride back more

Just put a cross of gaffer tape over them so it's obvious you're not actually a learner, be right.

I'm fairly sure it is an offence to display them when you have a full license unless you are a registered instructor driving between pupils (in car at least). I'd say them being crossed out with some tape counts as not displaying them, as if the test went the other way and you were a learner with them crossed out with black nasty then you'd be getting points for it.


Not saying it is entirely a good idea riding a 125 on motorway though but your choice, be fine if it's quiet.

One of my mates commuted from Bedford to London using the M1 every day for 5 or 6 years on the most beaten up Honda C90. He said it was fine in rush hour cos nothing was moving except the bikes, but if he did overtime and came back when traffic was flowing he would be cacking himself by the time he got to Scratchwood Services (renamed London Gateway for the children in here). He clocked up well over 100,000 miles on that crunchie and it went on to be his son's field bike.

Used to ride a beaten up suzuki FR80 on mways 5 days a week in the late 80's that was fun :rolleyes: Loved the front forks as when you braked the front lifted up instead of compressing?

125 on the m way is not so bad once you adjust, best thing is find a supermarket artic, they're driven very well usually, slip in behind and you can roll the throttle nearly off and just get sucked along. Probably 200mpg!

Why so negative? I asked an ex traffic cop and he didn't see anything wrong with it, well I've done it now and all was ok was doing 65-70 from m1 londo to a5 turning and decided to take the a5 home.
