New bike suggestions?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma, looking at getting a bike again as my restriction is up in 2/3 weeks....

My friend is selling his ZX636 but nobody really wants to insure me on that with 1 years no claims and being 19 years old.. well they will just for a minimal £1000 tp/tpft. MCE have said they're going to refer it and let me know, Devitt who I was previously with basically said not a chance!

So I'm looking at other bikes to consider.. I have approx £2000 - £2500 to spend, I looked at the RSV, but again insurance is pretty heafty!

IL4 or V-Twin... Ideally road bike, I'm no expert hence seeking any suggestions!

All advice /suggestions is appreciated

That'd be what I'd do, keep what you have but take the restrictors out. thats going from 33bhp to 70bhp, quite a big bhp jump.

Ride it and see how you like it and then look at changing bikes again...

If you can't insurea ZX6 (which I have FC £266 2yrs ncb) then an RSV which is a group 20 will deffinetly be out, you want something not in the super sports category, Z750, ER6F, SV etc

Er the SV went, I did experience it at full power for a selective duration in a controlled environment is the tail I'll put to that.

How old are you? The RSV was cheaper to insure than the ZX6 by like £80.00..

Erm Z750's are not cheap to insure...

keep the SV for another year, have a decent summer on it and rack up another years no claims, i went from 2yrs NCB at £450 FC on the sv, then got another years riding without claim or points and it went down to £267 fully comp.

now i have looked for me to get a ZX6R and it was £650 fully comp

Z750's seem to be a little bit out of my budget, I think sensible option would be to look at an SV again as the insurance is only £350..

It IS a cracking bike tho.

However as I have both it and my SV, I am finding that, at the moment, I am actually preferring my SV for my commute to and from work, so much that when my Zed comes up to its MOT at the end of the month I may just SORN it and delay the cost of the MOT and Tax for a month or so.

So yeah, I would get another SV, then when you have a bit more age and NCB, get something else, but if at all possible, keep the SV too, my SV was only £50 on top of the Zed to insure on a multi-bike policy.

£480 FC I think that's not too bad, although why more than my zx6 is beyond me.

I'm 31, but it's as much to do with your post code as it is with your age/experience.

Sort of, ideally want it for commuting motorway miles.

In reality, reverting back to an SV is probably the most viable option!

Talking to a younger rider who was riding a CBF1000 but wanted a Street Triple told me they are expensive to insure (only costs me £120 FC with protected NC and legal but been riding for donkeys).

Re: New bike suggestions?

It's got to be an SV really or similar

I have recently realised that having a bike for the first few years that can be fixed fairly cheapily is a really good idea, anything to get away from making unnecessary claims if it's dropped. Get a few years without claims first then go for something the heart desires, then you'll atleast have some NCD still there even if you claim (lose 2 years on a claim right?)

I wish, would rather have one of them than the ZX636..

I don't think I could go with a 125 again, not enough power & I'm 12 stone, when I was learning I never had that over 68mph even with my head down literally licking the tank.
