Vfr800fi
Right then now looking at these bikes. I have always loved the Honda V4 but always wished they were slightly more sporty (like if they made a V4 600 id be there!). But anyway im wanting a do it all bike, that is comfortable. My falco is a great bike but its not comfortable or the best commuter (heavy clutch and big V-twin). The Falco im planning on using as a track bike and a VFR as everything else. some of you might remember me mentioning a sprint st 1050 but its more money and I cant imagine a great deal more capable.
So what do people think to the VFR800Fi (none vtec, need those gear driven cams and none of that none sense). |

Re: Vfr800fi
Very nice imo. Not as nice as the vtec to look at and it seemed a bit soft when i bounced around on one

Had a few goes on my bosses one at my old work, was really nice to ride, even with 44k on the clock and loads of wiring going under the tank and towards the bars which stopped you from being able to turn the bars onto right full lock |

Sounds hellish with remus cans on. Only prob I've ever witness was datatool related. 2 hours of swearing to get the bike running |

When I do know if I need another bike, I'll be ideally looking for a shaftie anyway, and something comfotable with a big screen and fairing, and with hard luggage included in the sale. I think a Deauville or a BMW will be the most likely candidates, but I'd look for something like a VFR or a Sprint ST 955 at the right money. |
Re: Vfr800fi
Ah shame. Im really against the whole Vtec tbh. Any I want the gear driven cams... heh.
Hmmm suspension on a VFR800i, wonder what it will need to make it nice. Seen an 11k mile 02 for £3k. Just what I want really. Good luck with the sale Lucky!!!! |
Re: Vfr800fi
Having owned one ('Y' plate) bought in 2000 & kept for 5 yrs (25k miles) I cannot praise these bikes highly enough - comfortable (for rider & pillion), good fuel consumption, fun & the V4 sounds wonderful with a decent can on (I had a Micron).
With ref to YC's comment about the suspension, I weighed about 14 stone when I had mine & regularly rode 2 up with no issues from the suspension at all. Of course YC could be referring to it needing re-springing due to age - in which case I can't comment as I wouldn't know. |
Re: Vfr800fi
Suspension is OK, mikes has been Maxton'd for him, nick the g33k is about 6 stone with rocks in his pockets so it will be a bit stiff!

Re: Vfr800fi
A family member (the wifes side) who lives close by (Sheffield) is about to put his Honda VFR800fi on fleabay.
A good mate of his died and it's put him off being on two wheels. Blue 52 plate, 2 owners, apx13,000 miles (I think he's looking for around £2,200 but don't quote me on that), he's getting it taxed & tested before he advertises it. If you want me to get you his contact info pm me. |
Re: Vfr800fi
Yes im a short ar$e and weigh not much... though its 10 stone ha ha.
So what suspension work could I do with doing Mr Chris? |
Re: Vfr800fi
If you buy mikes then back off a couple of spring rates and reduce rebound accordingly. If you get a stock un then leave it alone and see how it feels spring rates wise, they are softly damped though.

Re: Vfr800fi
Mike, you selling the shock separate? And will it fit the older model?

110hp, the v4 sounds sweet and will do almost any thing you ask of it,its no sports bike but nor is a sv,but it doesnt have any problems keeping up with most bikes, top speed 140+mph(about 14hp less than a sprint),and there as cheap as dirt to buy a 98/2000 vvgc fsh lowish milage(30k not forgetting the engine is good for 300k)can be had for about £1400 |

Yes I have Big Red the viffer now, so Silver bike going to make room (at last!). It's only been sat in my garage a year I've come to realise!

Re: Vfr800fi
So why buy another of the same bike? That does seem slightly odd! ha

Re: Vfr800fi
Less miles, better (?) ECU, good deal - or something similar what Mike said when I asked him the same question.
|
Re: Vfr800fi
It will be my next bike, I'm pretty certain of that, although when that will be I don't know.
|
Re: Vfr800fi
Ah Dyzio, better ECU, might mean that the VTEC is a little more polished. I read they did that on the later models.

Re: Vfr800fi
Loved my Viffer, it was 14 years old, had probably gone round the clock but was still good for a 150 mile daily commute for 6 months.
Think I'd but another. |

Re: Vfr800fi
bit of a hijack here, sorry Gr33k, but as you are lookin at it for a commuter it's relevant. What mpg can you expect from one - thinking A roads, 60-80mph with small amount of town work. I'd love to upgrade my ZZR600 to an 800i, but I've heard the fuel economy isn't great. by great I mean I want at least 50mpg if not thrashed. I can get 58mpg with gentleish riding on the ZZR (17 years old and 51k on the clock).
What sort of milage do you get from the V-tech Mike? |
Re: Vfr800fi
Its cool Phil. I have read a bit and I read that if you thrash it you can get below 40. But on a run most say 50+. So its probably down to how you ride but 50+ should be possible!
|
Re: Vfr800fi
I usually get in the forties with my normal riding style around here (twisties in Wales). I have seen 20s when thrashing it in the VTEC zone, riding it like a SS600. On longer runs I will get low-fifties, riding A-roads/M-way in top and surfing the torque below 6500rpm.
|
Re: Vfr800fi
Thats not so bad after all then. Had seen a lot of people saying that low 40's was as good as it go (which seemed a bit weird to me). Slightly thirstier than my ZZR then, but not dreadful. still half tempted to just get a ZZR1100, but the VFR would most likely be the better commuter.
