Fackbook
why do people insist on putting up links to pictures on facebook in threads? not everyone has a farcebook account.... |
Re: Fackbook
because they are public links and you don't need an account to view only if you want to tag someone, added to that they have a nice bulk loader which is easy to use if you have more than 5 photos to upload :smt102
no one forcing you to view them anyway is there or just open an account look at the pictures steal what you want and delete it simple ? |
Re: Fackbook
I use photobucket. Im one of the few who has no use for facebook too :D
|
Re: Fackbook
I use photobucket as well but as Rictus said, FB is so bloody easy to upload a lot of pics.
Personally I can't see what the problem is if it's a public link. |
Re: Fackbook
I use FB & Picasa.
Picasa is free if you have a gmail account & gives you nearly 2gb space :) |
Re: Fackbook
Photobucket lets you put a load up easily, they used to restrict you to five at a time but now you can upload whole directories (and then go make a cup of tea, mow the lawn, change the engine on the bike, come back, still not done) if you want. Whether or not incompetent family members who want to see the pictures will be able to understand Photobucket as opposed to the nice and friendly Arsebook interface is another thing entirely.

Re: Fackbook
Pleased to say that I have never seen a use for face book despite the wife and kids using it. I just shove my photos on one of my web servers if I want to publish them to the net.
|
Re: Fackbook
As long as the album is public what's the issue you dont need an account to view it its just like a photo bucket album ?
The good thing about face book is 99.9% of friends and family have it so this enables you to bulid a photo collection that you can instantly share with friends and family. Then if you do want to share a certain set of photos you can make it public for people that dont have face book. |
Re: Fackbook
I use Flikr from Windows live Photo wassit. Easier than falling off a SV at a roundabout
|
Re: Fackbook
Start a poll!!!
Prefer photobucket. **** book took about 11 hours to upload 130 photos. The bucket of photo's 3 hours |
Re: Fackbook
I can't see F/b, flickr, photobucket or most image holding site when at work so a lot of the time I end up looking at red X's. its just the way of the world I suppose Bib's
just the same as not everyone has a landline, mobile or even PC. |
Re: Fackbook
Dont forget to check the T&Cs of those sites, some of them legally have the use of your pics for whatever they want - including selling to photo-libraries...
What, you thought they just offered the service out of the goodness of their hearts? |
Re: Fackbook
450 odd photos in just over and 2 hours for me on facebook, but then it may have been quicker as I left it to run and got on with something else, but why take a poll? I'm unlikely to change whatever the result is as it works and is convenient "public link" is sort of self explanatory really, unless of course this is more fundamental and about facebook as a whole :smt102
I use a few accounts for photos chiefly facebook for general stuff and another site for other work, I don't intent to mix them as they both serve their purpose quite well. |
Re: Fackbook
Just a joke Rictus.
Be honest they both serve a purpose. I struggle to view a lot of pics on facebook unless i force it into the old viewing format. The hosting sites come into their own if your doing a lot posting to forums and discussions. Failing that set-up a server and domain name, and serious liberties can be taken with upload content |
Re: Fackbook
i'm not having a dig at you Mark as you make all the pics public. its the people who don't then post the link assuming that everyone has an account.
well i have some news for you people who leave the pics private. some people don't want to be on feckbook. so can people who post links to pictures on facebook please make them public from now on. Thanks |
Re: Fackbook
We use Facebook because we post them in the Radio Station Facebook page. The reason for doing this is the Web Site Builder we used to make the BRR Website dramatically underestimated how long it would take him to build our page, so no actual website just yet. :(
The link I posted in my Bulldog Thread is to a public photo page, it is open to anyone because it is part of our Radio station, although I think it is linked via my partners page, but then she did take the majority of the photos. The use of Facebook is great for a small business because it gives us the ability to advertise directly and interact with people very easily and quickly. People can leave us feedback, make requests and chat to DJ's directly. Facebook is a huge global population too, so people everywhere can use it to communicate with us. As a tool it is a good one. However, I am finding that I am becoming more and more disillusioned with FB, the developers make small unfriendly changes and then sell data about users, so my personal page is no longer used for personal things and will eventually be deleted, once our BRR website is fully functioning. www.bikerrockradio.com www.facebook.com/bikerrock www.facebook.com/groups/bikerrockradio/ |

I like Picasa's web albums when I'm sending images on to lots of people I don't know, but Facebook works well and seems pretty quick as long as the files aren't huge. |
Re: Fackbook
The "public" albums on facebook never work for me either. I just get "This content is currently unavailable
The page you requested cannot be displayed right now. It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may have expired, or you may not have permission to view this page" Plus I don't like the click, view, back, load, click, view, back, load nature of facebook etc Where as photobucket threads, you just load the thread and all the pictures are there to see. |

yeah but you have to get all the links and paste them one by one into the thread, if you have got 450 photos like rictus did then its going to be a bit of a ball ache. |

Re: Fackbook
Photobucket takes an hour a picture these days to upload. Exageration slightly, but its certainly not a quick upload when you've got loads to do. I only have the patience to do three at a time via there.
|
Re: Fackbook
I find photobuckets bulk uploader very quick
|
Re: Fackbook
ok having a scan threw the net i looked at imageshack uploader so i'm testing something that took less than 5 min.. here goes..

Re: Fackbook
Upload speeds all depend on your ISP just like download speeds.
At home on on my virgin 50 Mb I get uploads between 3-5 Mbps and photos upload very fast. But at my mates down the road on pooy sky broadband my upload speeds are faster than his download speeds. And he can wait days to upload bulk photos. lol !! |
Re: Fackbook
well that worked lol..
|
Re: Fackbook
I thought the privacy policy on Facebook only let friend see the pictures you post where as pictures posted on an open form are available to the world to see.
I don't refer to pictures on another source---if I want them on the form[SV] I post them on here. Just my way of keeping the world at arms length and retaining a modicum of privacy on certain things |
Re: Fackbook
oohhh and i'm on a 20meg virgin connection.
|
Re: Fackbook
Noooooooooo don't use imageshack! God I hate it. Takes ages to load each pic and so many ads
Imageshack is the DEVIL! lol |
Re: Fackbook
if i'm not mistaken photobucket requires you to be a member to bulk upload?
|
Re: Fackbook
Think so
|
Re: Fackbook
so generally they all have a draw back of some kind :smt102, just use the one you're happiest with then......;)

Re: Fackbook
It used to be you needed paid membership to do bulk uploads. Now you can just upload as much as you like (because they don't want you changing services and clicking someone else's ads)
|
Re: Fackbook
Depends on how big your photos are. By default pics from a digital camera are huge. Simply resaving them in paint dramatically reduces file size with little noticable quality lose, and thats before you even resize the photo.
When i upload loads for others, i used to you use the windows power toy to resize all my photos first, then upload them. You will save hours :smt003 |
Re: Fackbook
The power toy was brilliant for resizing!
Did a lot of net destined photograph when working for a Uni |
Re: Fackbook
Theres a version for windows 7 too, i just never have many to upload, so dont need it.

Re: Fackbook
I use a script on photoshop to resize loads of photos at once. It can create new file instead of resizing the originals. And the quality is so much better than when photobucket does it
