Which chain lube?
 

iv just started useing my sv650s 1999 after passing my bike test , i think the chain could do with an oiling whats the best chain lub should i get as im new to owning a bike and theres a lot of diffrent stuff on the market and any suggestions on web sites i should go to to get it would be a great help

do yourself a favour and invest in a scottoiler your chain and pocket will thank you for it in the long run.

When I got my bike the chain was rank and needed a serious clean. They say a soak in paraffin oil will do wonders but to get the chain off (without breaking it) involves a swing arm removal :(

Found the cleaner to be excellent and the lube top notch. Use the cleaner with a stiff brush and watch the gunk fly off

One of my hornet-riding mates recommended this s-doc white stuff from Hein Gericke. It is effing expensive but it is good stuff, and avoids all that gunky black crud you get with regular spray-on chain lube.

Scottoiler, fit it, fill it, forget it. At least for 1200 - 1500 miles.

Mainly as every time I take the 'prilia out it rains :(

I got my V system Scottoiler from another forum member for around £35 if I remember correctly. Works perfectly.

I sprayed my chian once and road 750 miles accross europe - the chain wasnt dry when i stepped off the bike, it was still lubricated fine.

+1 for a Scottoiler.
I used to have the touring reservor on my old GS500, but it wouldn't transfer to the SV with tail tidy so just the standard reservoir for now.

+1 for wurth dry chain lube. Works well and no splatters on the back wheel. Have been using it for 3 years now.

I use a castrol one and can't say anything bad about it. However I have not tried any other so can't compare it. I'll be fitting scotoiler soon

I had a tutoro but took it off, I thought it was more trouble than it was worth

I have a Tutoro oiler and it does the job spot on, just gotta remember to turn the bugger off hahaha - Defo worth the money

A bit of advice, if you're not getting the slightest bit of spatter from your chain lube, then rest assured it is not lubricating your chain. If it's not spattering it's just sitting there congealing and collecting road crap.

For this reason I avoid any kind of dry lube, chain waxes and anything that promises not spatter. For the last ten years my own bikes have had a Scottoiler fitted, except my trackbike which gets treated to Motul Road chain lube regularly. I find the Motul stuff is right at the balance of spatter and staying on the chain to do its job but Scottoilers are simply the best solution.

Having had a Scotoiler for many years and the new Automatic Tutoro oiler, I personally prefer the new Auto Tuturo. I would say both are excellent in any case.
But with either, as Lozzo says, you wont believe how clean your chain will look with a 'total loss' system.

Nice to see Tutoro have done an automatic one now, at a good price too, thats what put me off getting one. I knew I'd never remember to switch it off!

Go for the Scotoiler. My SV came with it fitted, but when I change bikes I would defo buy another!
