Help!

Any GMers got an engine lift capable of holding the diesel lump and gearbox of a Mondeo?

My clutch is almost gone, gotta remove a lot to drop it out the bottom, would be lots easier to lift it!

Whilst thinking about the job in hand today, I thought "I'll just ring round a few garages and get some quotes" the cheapest quote.......THE CHEAPEST was £997.55 the cheeky *******s, I think I need to open a garage, I can get the parts online for less than £350 and about 5-6 hours work in the driveway.

Anyway back on topic, has anyone got or have access to an engine lift, also any of you who fancy wasting a weekend in my driveway getting grazed knuckles and covered in crap helping me with the heavy lifting, it would be much appreciated and of course tea on tap and the occasional bacon butty.

I'm sure I saw some parked on Allisons road in that compound by the church a while back. I'm sure with your charm you could borrow one. Doubtless a tad bigger than you need but may be an option. Also try the tank museum doubt they will be using theirs this time of year.

Instructions follow:-
Remove lump
Split engine from gearbox
Change clutch
Put all back together

Insert appropriate swear words at appropriate intervals.

They are drops trailer towing irons, not quite what I'm looking for but cheers anyway. Armour pack lifts would be far from ideal also.

You forgot in your instructions to include smoke brakes and faffing about with dual mass flywheel removal and refitting.

Re: Help!

You can hire 1000kg hoists for about £40+VAT for the weekend from HSS or about £30 from county hire in Tadley. Even with the cost of hiring it would still be cheaper than getting a garage to do the work

Tadley: small but full of useful stuff. There are literally only about 5 of us that live here, but we have everything we need within 2 minutes walk!

Give me a shout if you need a hand when you've got your hoist!

Edit: No, don't know. Have a few possible ideas though. I'll google.

Well volunteered that man! Will see if I can get some leave this week or next to get it done, any chance you could pick it up and bring it over for me as I doubt my car will make it that far!:(

If it's all arranged, paid for and will fit in the back of a mondeo estate, can't see that being a problem.

Ta muchly mate will let you know when it's all squared, it should be collapsible so no dramas with space in the motor, oh and isn't yours a Focus?

Tomor 16-10-12 07:16 PM

Cheers Gav if you're serious a bit more muscle would be advantageous!;)

Tomor 16-10-12 10:19 PM

Would be worth giving Ellis vehicle services a call. Much cheaper than main dealer. We use him for our cars and general advise.

Didn't go to a dealer mate, rang damn near every garage that's in 50 miles of here and that quote was the cheapest!:(
