ZX10 or ZX6 shock? K4.
Hello!
So currently I've got an Sv650s k4 with a GSXR 1000 front end and a ZX10 rear shock. I'm only 12-12,6 stone fully kitted so after having it on for a short while have realised that it is well oversprung for what I need it for. My question is would a ZX6 rear shock be more suitable or is there a better option? Thanks, George |
Re: ZX10 shock or ZX6?
yes its over sprung for your weight. problem is you have to start hacking bits off the undertray to fit anything else.

ZX10 shock or ZX6?
I've already done that with the zx10 shock as it was a 45 degree reservoir.

Re: ZX10 shock or ZX6?
in that case the the GSXR 600 k4-5 should be a perfect spring rate for you then.

ZX10 shock or ZX6?
Excellent, would that require the bottom bolt for it aswell or would the standard from the SV be okay?

Re: ZX10 shock or ZX6?
requires kawasaki nut and bolt which i presume you already have on.

ZX10 shock or ZX6?
Yes is already on there, thanks for the info as always Bilbo!

ZX10 shock or ZX6?
Just checked back to the forum when I bought it.. Turns out its a 2007 ZX6-R shock. Still feels oversprung though!

Re: ZX10 shock or ZX6?
ermm yup that would be very very oversprung and also raise the rear about 15mm.

ZX10 shock or ZX6?
That would explain a lot :P
What sort of weight would it be more suitable for? |
Re: ZX10 shock or ZX6?
on an sv pointy i would hazard a guess at about 19+ stone.
i'm surprised the back end was actually moving.. lol bet you felt every hump and bump in the road. |
Re: ZX10 or ZX6 shock? K4.
I had the 2006 zx10r shock on my sv and I'm 12 stone. Wasn't over sprung IMO and no cutting required (although I gather you've already done this to accommodate your existing shock). Its spring rate is only 8.3 kg/mm as opposed to the 9.2 kg/mm of your existing zx6 shock which I agree is over sprung for your weight.
Bibio is right about the gsxr 600 k4/k5 being a a lower spring rate but it's actually less than the standard shock on the sv (stock sv is 7.7 kg/mm, gsxr k4-5 is 7.6 kg/mm). Do you really want to be going softer than the original rear shock at 12 stone?
