I want to shoot a gun
 

I've watched "The Good, Bad, and the Ugly" too many times, and want to shoot an old-school revolver more than anything. I don't care if it's inaccurate or shiny. I want it to go BLAAAP, the end of the barrel explode in a flare the size of a small elephant, I want the recoil to break my arm, be blinded by a cloud of smoke, take 20 minutes to reload, and I want it to be too heavy to hold with one arm.

Where can look to do something like this? I just want to do it once. I was hoping to be able to go to some shooting range, pay some cash, shoot some guns and leave, but I can't find if that's possible via google. I don't want to become a member of a club and pay membership fees unless I absolutely have to- I just plan on doing it once, maybe twice.

Anybody know where I can look?

Really for that you need to play with black powder. Maybe a copy of a navy colt. But if you can find a walker copy.

For recoil, a ruger Redhawk in .44 made me shake my arm and say f*** I want one.

You need to get over to the continental ranges as our knee jerk laws don't allow the law abiding to shoot any more.


I used to have friend who was well into the historical breech loaders, I will track him down and see what the situation re a trial somewhere is (probably Bisley).

take a holiday to the states and i'm sure that there will be somewhere that will fill your needs.

You cant do it in this country because handguns are banned.

Go to Central Europe and you can play with all sorts of stuff.

Fired a AK47, M16, MP5 and a big ass Magnum in Prague last year on a stag do :smt072

Aye, eastern europe run mad ranges with silly firearm choices, the US is not far behind. France offers some reasonable shooting.

You could however google 'Airsoft' if you want some real fun without touching real steel.

I'm not sure what sort of gun your after but it's gonna have to be on the level of a magnum to get that experience.

A mate recently went with his grown up kids to Florida and they spent the afternoon shooting all sorts of guns. Tbf they went to do the theme parks etc but having been a few times he decided to check out this option and he said they had a great time.

A lot of twaddle coming out of people here... Yes you can fire a 44 magnum, or my 357 magnum, only they need to be lbp ( long barrel pistol) format

Yes handguns are banned but as above I think they count as a rifle if the barrel is sufficiently long... and so can go on normal FAC :)

Or you can still shoot blackpowder revolvers. That will definitely show you the big muzzle flash/loadsa smoke/20 minute reload thing :)

Good the bad the ugly was 1800s or something so probably blackpowder cartridges rather than modern nitro centrefire stuff.


Rimfire blackpowder catridges of that sort would be under same law as centrefire revolvers... rather than as black powder since despite not being nitro they use self-contained ammunition.

I don't know about the shooting laws in this country, but, as said, get over to Thailand and you've a choice of all sorts of guns. There's even places in Cambodia where, if it's your thing, you can fire RPG's at cows. I was contented with a few rounds of a glock though, at a target of the non animal/human variety!

Went to NC and shot everything from full autos to .50 cal desert eagles. Not cheap but loads of fun.

You can shoot shotguns over here without much trouble.

Hehe always fun. Like ones that run on various welding gasses and are made of steam pipe.

What I'd really like to make is a burst disc cannon. Charge an accumulator up to 5 bar or more of stoichiometric gas mixture, ignition blows the disc out and fires the projectile FAR faster than pure combustion :smt066

However, in a somewhat related fact to the "what you used to do as kids" thread... I do not play with this stuff any more lol.

Just googled burst disc cannons, looks pretty cool.

Remember my uncle telling me of someone who used to work in the docks, would get a gas cylinder on a rail, aimed into the sea. Quick smack on the valve with a sledgehammer and off she goes, like a torpedo!

I know I can do all this abroad, but that's what I'd like to avoid. It's not as simple as to "Just go to Thailand", and if I did, I'd be shooting cows with bazookas, not pistols.

So to this "black powder" stuff. How can I actually get to shooting some? Can anybody recommend a place or club?

I heard a place in cambodia would let you have a go with an RPG7 (russkiy bazooka you see all the taliban with) at a cow. I think it was about $400 for the RPG and $400 for the cow, and you got your $400 for the cow back if you missed. Same place would let you have a go with an M60 for $1 a round. Shouting "get some" optional but encouraged.


For the black powder I would find a local club and see if you can go along, there are a few around but they don't tend to advertise on the net. Seems like making friends with joef59 up there would be a good start!

My friend went to Thailand and shot an AK47, but was offered £500 to shoot a cow with an RPG! Madness. Love it.

How could someone shoot a cow with a RPG? That's bloody cruel, admittedly it will probably die quick (hopefully).

I'd rather shoot an old car or a paedo or something.

You'd never hit the cow.

Fired a couple rpgs in Mongolia, (as well as the standard ak, dragonov, even fired a maxim) and it was a struggle to hit a wall of tyres at several 100 yards.
